2005 rx8 issues

Hello, I bought this car a month ago and it seems to have issues that me being inexperienced would like give the car to someone who knows what they doing to give the car life again.

The car has 63xxx km, check engine light is on, sometimes red exclamation light would come on but then goes away and sometimes when I start the car it says “abnormity” I don’t have any idea about compression but when the car was working fine it would start cold and hot in 1 try with hot starts taking slightly longer from memory. The guy I got it from said something about the battery but never a problem until now (once it died while turning on weeks ago and I just touched the battery and back on and started) just now I went to start the car and it won’t fully turn on, I guess the battery cause the car has some thing on the Bluetooth that usually has the number for power between 12-14 or something but right now it says 9.

please help

ps I know I shouldn’t bought the car due to various reasons but It’s passed that now.

Sounds like at least the battery has run down, if it's only at 9V. You should be able to charge it up with a charger. The cables connected to the battery might also be loose or dirty, Disconnect and clean them just to be safe, you can google how to do that, it's the same on any car. Just be sure to reconnect them in the right order.

After that you need to know what code the check engine light is for. Any mechanic should be able to read the code for you, it requires a simple reader.

What is the bluetooth thing?
What do you mean it says "abnormity"? There is no text error display on the car without modifications.

Can you describe the red exclamation icon thay you're seeing? There are several for different systems, but red usually means "stop driving, this is serious". Look for a manual online or if you got the paper one, for what the different indicators mean. If it's what I think it is, you're low on brake fluid. No fluid - no brakes.

And.. yes, a used rotary is not a great match for inexperienced, but if you're willing to learn you'll be fine.

Update.

I tried to start car this morning and had worse luck, car is just dead. Since I owned it I noticed there is a small bulb on basically at all times when car is on and I hadn’t even turned my lights on for night for example. The red exclamation surrounded by a circle, looked it up says breaks system warning light but when I drive it would go away. Yeah cars says abnormity when turning on. The Bluetooth thing is what was given to me by last owner, it’s for music but when turn the car on or even just to give the car power it shows a number and a power electricity symbol.

Due to me not being ready for this car I was looking at selling it, with the battery having this issue should I reduce the price and let people know or get it fixed and then sell.

thank you for your quick replies.

You probably just need to charge the battery...
What bulb is always on?

Where does the car say "abnormity"?

The brake light going away is probably the fluid sloshing around as you drive, or the sensor being loose for some reason. More likely the fluid. You can confirm just by looking at the brake fluid reservoir under the hood in front of where the steering wheel is. It's the only reservoir there and it has min and max markinga.

Yeah I’ll try to get a jumpstart or buy those jump start packs. Next time I get the car on I’ll take a picture. I wonder what made the power die, whatever it was it must’ve been happening through your the night for it to lose more power.

Once I get it running I’ll take it in to a shop and see what they think, if I was gonna sell the car for x dollars should I fix it and then sell or minus the cost of repair from x and ask for around that value. I love the car but it’s stressing me out low key.

Possible the trunk was not fully closed or one of the interior lights left on? That'll run it down overnight.

It's not clear that you have an actual problem beside the battery and low brake fluid, both of which are $20 solutions.

Most shops have no idea about these cars, how to repair them or what they should be worth. I'd get it running again and sell it for what you paid and let the buyer negotiate down if they want to.

Or even better figure out market value by checking for other rx8s for sale in your area. 63,000km is relatively young. What year is it and where are you?

Yeah I hope that’s all it was. It’s a 2005 and I’m in Palmerston North New Zealand.

Also just a general question, the yellow check engine light is on, does that mean I have a problem? Would a perfect condition rx8 always start hot and cold equally fast or always hot starts take a little longer.

There are a good few knowledgeable members here from NZ that might be able to help you locally.

Yes the check engine light means there is some kind of problem, you need to get the code read to determine what it is. That is simple, any shop can do it. Report back the exact codes you discover.

Hot start can take a touch longer, but on a *perfect* condition rx8 that shouldn't be noticeable.

You may want to read rx8help.com to get more familiar.

Wow your super helpful, I thought if it takes extra time at all means something quite bad. You were right btw, I got home after work and thought it would be funny if my boot would open without pressing the button and… 😢 I’ll report back with what happens next hopefully tomorrow.

Hello again. I got my car jump started and drove it to the gym ( was on for about 20 minutes I wanna say before driving it) car failed to start but almost did. Had to start it up again at gym.

I noticed when I jump started it drove it to the gym it had the check engine and red brake system light off. When I jump started again it’s back on 😢😂

I got a picture of the light that seems to be on all the time. I noticed now (maybe before too) it’s shaky

The light that is always on while car is

while idle. I hope car will be recharged if I leave it in forawhile

Hi I have an A/T 2005 which i have done extensive diy stuff...I just cant seem to find the issue im having on here...Even in the starting page.
here goes.
I was driving and went over a speed bump the car cut off. couldnt restart, waited nothing left the car at the mall hours later tried to jump and nothing.
anyways core of issue. I have tried to start it and its a weaker sound in the crank. so I charged up battery, which is new at autozone, changed plugs, bought new battery terminals , put in 2 new starter , used multi meter checking all other ground and all fuses, pulled the bigger things ( forgot what they call em) tested all, and stilll the same weak sounding crank no start and then i checked the fuel pump had a friend listen and its a click sound only. Im so lost at this point and cant find this issue on here anywhere.. ANY SUGGESTIONS. im accepting anything anyone offers to try.
