2005 Rx8 Transmission problem?

I was slamming through gears and driving like i always do and i went to slam the car into 4th and all of the sudden my revs hit 9k and i was still in gear. No power. Clutch pedal has pressure and appears to function. The car will NOT move. At a standstill i put the car in 1st and release the clutch pedal and it seems to want to try to move but in all 6 gears there is just no power to the transmission.

Why would you ever be “slamming” into any gears?? Not cool.

Sounds like a transmission. You'll find out once you take it out thought, just make sure to look at the clutch.

Slamming was just a term i use. I mean going through the gears as fast as possible with 8k rpm.

Unfortunately the RX-8's 6spd trans is not one you will be able to beat on for long. They are inherently prone to failure if abused. With that said, it sounds like you lost the friction material on the clutch disc. I've seen them literally explode into pieces. Remove the starter and inspect the disc before you remove the trans if you'd like. Either way with the trans down, replace the clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing and seal.

It's just a silly term the "cool" kids use these days. You should hear the goofy stuff that falls out my HPDE students' mouths. OTOH, I guess it isn't any sillier than "rowing" through the gears...

In any case, either the clutch or trans or both. Replace everything with OE parts, while you are in there, and be sure to put a glob of tacky grease on the slave cylinder nose to keep it from chirping.
