2010 S2 Wheel/Tire Advice

Hi guys,

I am new to this forum and have a stock 2010 RX-8 and I'm looking at wheels with the following specifications below.

18X8.5 +30
18X9.5 +22
18X9.5 +15
18X9.5 +35

Could you advice me which one in the list would be best and what tyres to put into them? I am thinking it might be the 8.5 30p or the 9.5 35p as per my search in the forums but wanted to get input from you guys.

Im guessing “30p” means +30 offset? If so, it’s way low. You need to be between +45-55 offset for this car. Other than that, that rim size will work.

Hi Cayman,

Thanks for the reply. I have edited the main post to avoid confusion on the offset numbers.

How about the 9.5 wide with +35 offset? Would that work? Also, is it possible to get a narrow tire to make the low offset wheel fit? Say 9.5 +35 with a 245/40/18 tire or a 8.5 +30 with a 240/40/18 tire.

I’ve read some posts in the “will it fit” thread about others making this work on stock RX-8 but others say it won’t fit so I am kind of in a limbo with my decision.

Not 100% sure 9.5 will work in the front but it will work in the rear. A lot of aftermarket rims come 9.5 in rear and 9 in front. If you are going with this size, you could get away with a +40 but no less really.

Thanks Cayman. Still quite confused now as one member also said it will fit ok in the other thread. Hopefully can get more info about this from other members. Cheers!

It might fit. I ran 9 in front before and it was a bit tight but it worked. May need to remove the fender liner if running 9.5 in front. I also had to roll the rear fenders as they would rub with 9.5 in rear. I ran 19" rims though so might not be too bad with 18". Dont have too many pictures of old red, but you can kinda see what I had on it.

I have 18x10.5 +43 and they fit with no issues... with 275 series tires.

The outer rim of the 9.5 +35 will have about 5mm more room than mine.... and the inner about the same. The tires will make it a lot easier.... the only time I've had problems is with tire profile on some tires with a more square profile. They can have a bit of an issue on the front at full lock

Yea I had to run 35 tires on the rear but could fit 40 in the front. Was it 10.5 rear only or all 4? I cant imagine having such a wide tire in the front.

Sweet ride Cayman.

Thanks for all the inputs guys. I think I'm gonna be pushing my luck with the 9.5 +35. The shop says I could change it if doesn't fit so I guess I could get away with trying to be more aggressive.

In my experience, given the options above I would suggest 18x8.5 +30 for street with stock suspension.

My suspension is heavily modified and I use 18x8.5 +27 with 245/40's (10mm spacers up front, extended studs all around) for street and 18x9.5 +22 with 255/35's for dry track. Currently looking for wet track set in the size of 18x10 +30 through +40 to run 265/35.

Buy quality tires. Good luck!

9.5 inch wide wheels with a 35 offset is a perfect fit. It's conservative even. Easy fit front and rear. 245 tires are the minimum you should put on it. My wheels are 19x9.5 +38 with a 255 tire all around lowered on Tein and Koni. As you can see, perfect flush fitment.
