2011 rx8 P2097 please help

Hi, im new to this forum and need some help.

I have a P2097 code that will not go away. So far I have changed the rear O2 sensor, MAF, coils, plugs and wires. I cleared the code after each try and it always comes back in 7-10 miles. At idle it smells like its running a little rich but seems to perform ok.

2011 rx8 grand touring, manual trans, all stock intake/exhaust, 21,000 miles

Thanks for your help!

Hrmm very interesting. Out of curiosity, how is the integrity of the catalyst material? Any cracks or holes?

I haven't pulled the cat off to check it. I figured with the low miles it couldn't be bad. I'll check it out tonight.

If that turns out to be the case, most countries with emissions requirements have laws requiring the manufacturer to replace the catalyst for free before a certain period of time.

In the US it is 8 years/80,000 miles from manufacture.

I pulled the cat today, it looked great to me. I dumped a couple cans of carb cleaner through it just to be sure it's clean. Reset the computer, drove 5 miles then shut it off, drove another 5 and it's back again. I would buy an O2 simulator but I have heard it won't fix the CEL on the 8.

Even if it is out of warranty, perhaps a dealer's scanning equipment can narrow the problem down a bit better for you.

I have already been to the dealer. They told me to start by replacing the things that I have already done. Absolutely no help, not many 8's in this area possible that they just don't have the experience......p.s. I'm looking for help on what could cause the code, not a place to have it fixed.
