Which 8 to get?

Hey guys. As soon as I start my new job I will have the opportunity to get an 8. I know I need to get a compression test done by a rotary mechanic. Should I fork out the extra money in the long run for a newer one? or should I be fine with an older rx8? Both would be comparable in mileage.

Are they both AT or MT? If one is MT go with it much more fun and less likely to carbon build as you can get higher rev's to clear the carbon.

One thing to look at is the 8 year engine core warranty and how much longer, if at all, the newer one would be warranted versus the difference in money.

I got lucky my 8 is a 04 I got it at 89k and it now has 140k and still as strong as when I got it. The year don't realy matter as far as reliability. The past owner and how they maintained the car matters the most. Compression testing will realy tell you what to do after you buy the car how long it lasts is partly up to you and how you mod and maintain the car. one of the bigest things that can help this engine last and should be your first mod is a SOHN adapter. Series II dose have some things that Mazda learned with series I needed attention and they fix it but again I have a S I and love it. In the end it's realy up to wich car is realy speeking to you. Good luck with your choice and may you never look back.
