About to purchase an ‘06
I just joined especially after getting info about rotaries from this page. Im about to purchase a ‘06 shinka the thing is it seems to have a hot start problem (only after filling up gas i think the owner said) check engine light just turned on and owner said possible engine mount problem because it kinda purrs. Owner says well maintained and kept up on oil levels. 45k miles on it no leaks any advice???

I don't own my own RX-8 (yet). But everything I have read on here, which is a lot, points to a compression issue when there are hot start problems.
Did you read the threads about starting issues? Here is a good one, scroll down to hot start issues: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...t-here-222584/
And folks always recommend getting a compression test before purchasing a car with a rotary engine. Those tend to be expensive, but they'll save you from buying a car that will need an engine rebuild right away.
Good luck, with your decision!

Caveat emptor.
All the best.

People sell these cars all day long with those issues and try to play it like it's not a big deal. There's a 90% chance it needs a rebuild, and the owner knows it. That's why they're selling it. How much is he selling for? 2000-3000 is pretty fair depending on the condition the body is in, but I wouldn't pay a dollar more.

Unless the body is in dealership condition it's not worth that. Just be patient for one that's in need of a rebuild to come up for cheap. Or pay a little more for one that's in excellent shape. Anything in-between is usually somebody trying to sell off a dying car to people unfamiliarwith rotaries. I bought mine with a bad engine for 1500, it still had dealer plastic covers on the door sills. With rx8's if it sounds like it's too good to believe it probably is.
