I traded an old ford Courier for an 04 with a 6-speed trans. Guy I got it off of blew a water jacket seal in it about 6 years ago and then stuck it in his barn. Went an picked it up literally an hour before joining the forums here. I do know that the engine is stuck. But there are quite a few good used engines in my area for about $1500. Once I get it running again I plan on taking my time and rebuilding the old engine if I can get it unstuck. I used to build FC RX-7s back when you could still get them cheap and I still have all the tools for the old 13Bs and just decided to get back into the Rotaries again.

Don't rebuilt that engine. Get known good parts or a fully known good engine. If the water jacket is blown, it might have been overheated, warped, rusted, etc. The housings might be trash even before any of that. Buying a used engine also doesn't carry any guarantees of it being any good. Put that 1500 toward a proper good engine from a rebuilder - or good parts if you insist on building your own.

I was planning on replacing the rotor housings anyway. I'm more intrested in the Rotors and Eccentric shaft out of the origonal engine. You can still get the housings new from Atkins or occasionally off E-bay also alot of steels on E-bay too. As far as the used engine goes I have a habit of trying to hear an engine run before I buy one. Or getting one from a Wrecked car. I know its still a risk afterall these engines are fragile if someone don't know how to treat them properly. I've also been leaning towards a JDM engine and using it as a... "Short block" There about $2200 though. The main goal is just to get it running right now so that I can work out any issues it has from sitting since 2017....bugs I can only find out about by getting it running.

Pineapple and Pettit list there reman engines at $7000 and $10K respectively. RR dosen't seem to have anything for sale just a rebuild service . At these prices I might as well just junk this car and go buy one that runs and drives. Of course thats entirely missing the point of why I even got the car....

I think you were looking at 'new' engine prices, which aren't available last I heard.
You should be able to get a decent rebuild or reman for around $4k, but if you insist on doing your own, you could get lucky with a salvage engine.
I used The Rotary Doctor in Neosho, Mo. to install my engine.
He does NOT recommend Atkins.
Emphatically.

Huh I wonder what happened to Atkins I bought the master kit I used to rebuild the mill in my 88 GXL, I didn't have any issues then, of course that was 20 years ago too so. I did notice that Rotary Resurrection is using Atkins parts in the engines they rebuild mostly just side seals, oil ring inserts and the thermal pellet.. But yes one of the reasons I got the car is because I want to build an engine for it. I've done it before with my GXL..so its not my first rodeo. I want to put a used engine in it now because its been sitting 6 years. And I want to be able to work the bugs out of it while gathering up all the parts for the new motor.
