Anybody have recent experiences with Atkins Rotary in WA?
Hey. My husband and I are longtime RX-8 owners- we got 9 years and 155K miles out of our 2004, on one engine no less. However it went belly-up, and we are in the process of getting the engine rebuilt.
The engine itself is at Atkins rotary, and has been for 2 weeks... when I spoke to them this morning they said they won't even start on it til next week even, which is wayyyyy longer than they initially indicated. I am starting to worry a bit because, although we did do research before going with them, they haven't even started work and the shop where the car is sitting, in a pile pretty much, is not very happy that it is taking them so long already and they haven't even started work and won't for a week yet. (If that wasn't clear, Atkins has just the engine and another shop has the rest of the car.)
Is it likely to be worth the wait? Anyone have a rebuild done by them? Thanks!

I actually know a guy who works there if you want me to inquire. But personally I don't recommend them to anyone but that is based solely on a situation that a friend of mine had that was handled poorly by Atkins and a few other issues others I know have had with products from them. But generally they have a good reputation. But if they gave you a delivery date and are now changing things then that is not good, especially if your car is taking up shop space elsewhere.

Not a good spot to be in. Do you have a quote in righting on estamated time to rebuild. Granted it's just a quote but you might be able to push them into getting it done if they fail to uphold the quote time within reason and use this to get money off the rebuild for that failure due to it costing you money with the other shop. Any time that time is a factor it is good to get such a quote for just this reason.

No, no time estimate in writing unfortunately. I am not being charged by the other shop for the delay but they are losing money on having my pile of 8 taking up a bay they could be using. F&F, the shop where the car corpse is, has been nothing but great so far, best mechanics we have worked with for ages.
Anyway, thanks 9k- no need to poke your friend, I was just hoping that someone here was familiar with their work. At this point we could still buy a reman engine elsewhere and just get the fried one back from Atkins and be done with it.
