APV Alignment and Lubrication

I'm about to LIM back on the engine this weekend, but I took a quick picture of the inner APV gears showing the alignment of the dots and lines on the rack since I saw it mentioned in another thread.

When the gears are lined up like that the exterior gear is in the 1:00 position which is what I've read is needed for installation.

So my question is, when I took it apart the inner gears looked to have grease or maybe gear oil on them. But the whole thing was gunked up so I can't tell if it was intentional or not. Before I reinstall the LIM gasket, should I lubricate the inner APV gears?

Thanks!
