Asking for Advice/Guidance and/or Opinions What To Do Now/Next
Hi All,
I'm a former member back in 2006 and had forgotten my login information. I had owned a 2003 Titanium Gray GT 6/Speed RX-8 back in 2006 and had not issues til I wrecked it on a rainy evening.
I currently own a 2007 White Pearl 6/Speed MT RX-8 and now having hot start issues. The motor was rebuilt.
I'm trying to get a sense of idea, opinion, and/or guidance on what would be perhaps be the best thing to do besides going through another rebuild.
I'm not sure if I should go the route with parting out the car or just selling it altogether. Like is it a lot of work parting out and etc? Totally clueless on where to move the car and if i should strip everything out before handing the car over to the junk/yard? Do I have to change the title with the DMV or MVA?
My indecision is due to the aftermarket parts that are installed onto the car and i am thinking it's a deal breaker to part them out and sell the car? I may or may not have the original parts.
Any feedback or guidance is greatly appreciated.

Dunno if the 8 community is different but generally, parting out recoups much more of your investment than trying to sell at a higher price that includes part prices.
Have you done the poor man's comp test with a regular piston engine compression tester with the check valve removed to make sure it's a compression issue necessitating a rebuild?

An 8 with a bad motor has little value. If you want to recoup the maximum (limit your losses), you either need to fix it and sell it in good running order, or part it out. However all of this takes effort, skills and investment of time.
If the fix requires a new motor, cheapest I can see you doing that is 4k, assuming you can do all the work. If you pay someone, you will invest more than you would gain. So if you cant replace the motor yourself (or with zero labor cost) I would skip this option. The other option for max return is to part it out. Good used aftermarket parts have a decent value. Plus some of the OEM stuff can be valuable too. Doing this requires significant effort to recoup the most value. To summarize...
Low effort:
Sell the car as is for cheap.
High effort:
Repair car until it runs well and sell for full value.
Take car apart and list/sell all parts individually.
I would also mention repairing the car adds the risk of more investment. Spending money to save money if you will.
Good luck

You're going to need to buy a car to replace it if you get rid of it, so at a certain point you may as well replace the engine? Either way money will be leaving your wallet, may as well spend it on something you like.
If you do plan to get rid of it, strip everything aftermarket or stock but valuable(seats, wheels, cat, etc) and get a junker pick it up on a flatbed. It doesn't need to drive itself to the junkyard.
What all mods are we talking about?
