I have a 2005 rx8 manual (with a 4 button switchblade key if that helps) that I tried to start over the past couple days but would not crank now even with a full charge. I looked more into it this morning and found the security light was flashing quickly and I cannot get any codes with a generic OBD2 reader. I waited and noticed the security light was giving this pattern after a minute or so of waiting with the key on.
After looking I found this diagnostic procedure and started going through these steps I found in a 2003 Workshop Manual online.
I'm stumped right now on two separate issues though, my first concern is how I would rule out my key fob being the problem before going through these steps. I've already replaced the battery and the lock/unlock works fine but just won't let the car crank. My other issue is when I had reached steps 7 & 8 seems strange. From what I understand step 7 has you backprobe terminal A of the coil harness connector with the harness connected to the coil and the key on and test for voltage, and if there is voltage then the coil is the issue. However on step 8 it has you remove the coil harness from the coil and test the same terminal A for voltage with the key on. What I don't understand is if the harness is supplying the voltage from the keyless unit then how I could come to the conclusion that the coil is the problem when it isn't even connected for testing on step 8. Any help would be appreciated and please let me know if any more information about my car is needed.
