Did the Mustang know you were racing? People dislike them because they have less power and typically break more often.
There's really not much you can do to increase power (except selling it and buying the higher power manual version). All the common mods you see on civics are already done from the factory. This isn't supposed to be a straight line acceleration car though, it's just a big Miata. It shines in autox and road racing.
You can turbo it but it you could buy 2 other RX8s for the cost. It's not an easy project to get right.
If you want to speed it up, focus on weight reduction: lighter, smaller wheels, removing power seats if you have them.

You typically spend the same amount of money on a 4-port 4AT as a 6-port 6MT, but you have 40 less horse to start with, along with lower redline, a much less efficient transmission, and if you have the "base auto", you also have smaller brakes, different suspension, open diff, steel driveshaft(manuals have carbon fiber ones), etc. Not a good value just to skip the clutch pedal.
I learned how to drive a stick and I say it's worth it just for this car.
As for power adding, it's a bit of all or nothing with this car. Tuning can't get you much, so you will have to add FI for big power. Otherwise, just focus on handling mods and let the Mustang handle the straight-line work.

My rx 8 has both auto and manual?but yes it still a automatic? i'm going to try to learn manual so i can get that rush from a rx 8 that i know it has in it?but in the mean time i'm going to push the limit on my rx8.

All automatic 8s come with manual shift mode and paddle shifters. Paddle shifters are not nearly the same as a manual trans, though. For one thing, you can't skip gears with paddle shifters.
Again, there isn't much to push out of an 8 straight-line wise without nitrous or turbocharging. Mazda has optimized almost everything. Factory intake should be left alone unless you feel like spending $300+ on an AEM/Mazdaspeed for like 3 HP. You can get rid of the cat but that also leaves you with an awful smell. A tune will give you like 10 HP. It's not a Civic or a Mustang where you can tune and get, what, 40 HP plus easily.

So you keep your car happy and healthy. They're fun cars but they have zero tolerance to neglect. I assume you know about keeping your oil topped up?
