It's the jdm omp. It revs past 3 so i assumed it was fine but I could always swap them just to check. The thing won't fire now though and that burnt clutch smell freaks me out. It has to be the starter though

Well I tried three apps, tried to scan for logged dtc, current dtc, all the options, and no trouble codes are reported. The check engine light has been on since I put a battery in it. From the very start. Any reason the codes aren't readable? Or is it just my scanner being junk? Btw the starter smells burnt and won't spin when i jump it, so the engine seizing sound and feeling should just have been the starter seizing, not the clutch or engine. I'm still hopeful that this smoke is oil and not water. Before i forget, I've been wondering. If the omp is working properly, and the first rotor's plugs aren't firing, but the second rotor is, would the oil from the first rotor not being burned, and being pushed into the hot exhaust be enough to smoke pretty bad?

The amount of oil injected via the OMP is miniscule. The smoke is most likely accumulated oil from the intake and the ATF you put in. It doesn't take much.

The code isn't reading because it's a Mazda-specific code. What tool are you using? In Torque (the app) I think you have to buy the Mazda code set to read it. Not sure about others.

it smoked pretty badly before the atf too though... I've tried torque, obd link and engine scanner. I'll just have to buy something that works. In the meantime I'll look for a wiring diagram for the injectors. I took the uim off tonight and I'll check whatever I can. Incidentally what exactly happens when it goes into limp mode? Just closes tb a bit and limits fuel pump?

Limp mode = will not rev over 3k. The computer won't allow it.
