Battery Light and charging/over heating problem.
Hello everyone.
I was driving my 2005 the other night when most of the warning lights started flashing on the dash, power steering then failed but came back on. All the lights then switched off apart from the battery. I drove the car home and checked the belts, all fine. It has a new battery so checked that the alternator was producing power. Nothing, great i thought, took it to a garage and they changed the Alternator. When I picked up the car it still had the battery light on, the garage tried to fix it over the next couple of days but all they managed to do was flood it and leave it stranded in their workshop.
So I now have a new alternator (which I didn't need) and a battery less than 4 month old so no faults with these. I've checked just about everything I can think of and can't find the fault. I've cleaned the MAF sensor, checked all the fuses, checked the grounds are good.
But if I put a connection from the battery + to the Green and white wire on the alternator bypassing the PCM, the alternator switches on and starts charging the battery. Voltage jumps up from about 12.3 to 14.5 and you can hear it turn on. It remains on even when I remove the connection. This sometimes makes the check battery light go off, but not every time. So every time a drive the car, I do this little connection and I know the battery is charging at least.
But the car seems to be running very hot, the coolant temp gauge stays in the middle but when i open the bonnet the heat hits you in the face. So I'm guessing this is apart of the same problem.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks
