Best way to sell or donate a 2007 RX-8?
Hi guys, owner of his first RX-8 going to heaven....
2007 with 127k miles with low compression.
I could spend 5k and get another engine installed....(no guarantee beyond 30 days)
I could unburden myself and look for another one. I want another, having learned quite a bit now in the last 4 years....but is it worth it when you see bubbling rust in both rear quarter panels above the tires?
Carsforcash offers me $230 ....(seriously....jaw still on ground)
waiting to talk to H&R block to see if donation is better....
If anybody is looking for a rolling chassis with so little cosmetic issues.....call or text 248-949-9490 (larry) Detroit area
thanks

I was going to suggest finding another place to have an engine installed, because 30 days is the same as quoting a million dollars. It says the shop has zero confidence in their work, and would prefer you go away. The rust changes the equation a little though....
If you're in love with the platform (and most of us on here are) and have some space (and possibly a patient partner), what I'd do is get another, and use the first as a parts car. For instance, if you have a GT, you can get a sport and swap the GT parts over to get a better deal. Or just have spares if your dash isn't cracked. Things like that. Also, never hurts to have an extra wiper motor, or headlight assembly. Mazda will still sell us these parts, but that won't always be the case, and when that day comes, you want a pallet rack in your garage full of parts to keep you going.
You could sell it to another enthusiast for parts. That way, at least, it goes to keeping other RX-8s on the road. Won't be much, but it'll beat $250. If it were an S2, and you were closer, I might throw you an offer.
If you're feeling really industrious, you could break your '07 to pay for the new one. Parts make more money than the whole. Tear it down the the shell, and sell everything off. You'll be surprised how much money that brings. If you want to maximize profits, it'll take longer; if you want to maximize time, you let things go for whatever people offer. Either way, you come out ahead.

Thanks spectre....
I have found a place that will replace it using whatever parts off my original engine when possible and cap it at 5k for an engine with about 85,000 miles on it.
He'll give me a 1 year on parts warranty but not labor. Doesnt sound bad really....there isnt much on the resale market for a manual transmission....its the middle of winter of course...and most people/places out of state really don't want to deal with someone asking a lot of questions and not being there to drive it and close a deal....
i wish i had a place to hold the chassis and part it out....so many items are worth so much....the passenger side airbag on the dash JUST starting to crack.....really bad timing....hate seeing that
I am having the mechanic look over the car to see if there are any other problems i should be aware of (brakes, fuel lines, cat. converter,) before i just drop 5k and hope for the best....really has been one of my best driving experiences ever......I've owned 2 each of volkswagen scirocco, 2 toyota MR2's and this could be my possible 2nd RX-8. bummer that when i bought this 2007 with 90k miles it was only 5,500. from the first owner.....all the RX-8's out there now costs double....just wish i didnt have that bubbling of rust....otherwise the choice would be a heartier YES to replacing the engine....
thanks for your thoughts....
