Buying high milage to rebuild engine

Hey guys,

I was wondering what you think of me purchasing an almost 300,000km car and paying for a new engine install? Perhaps at the same time I can upgrade all of the necessities etc. Would love to know your thoughts on this? Just wondering what if anything else would go wrong with the car?

With that sort of mileage, I hope you have bottomless wallet. In addition to the engine, you will also be facing the possiblity of transmission or clutch work, possible differential work, steering hoses and power unit, brakes and the list goes on. You have to bear in mid that not only the engine has that mileage but also every other mechanical and electrical component, as well. Not to mention the body panels and their attachments. I would think long and hard about such a venture because it could very well give the term "money pit" a whole new meaning.

I'd have to disagree if the car was well taken care of and everything is still operating good I say go for it I'm just about at 150k miles and going strong. At lest your looking at this with open eyes most come on here and go "I'm going to buy a 8 with xxxxxx miles and don't have money to get a engine after I buy the car should I buy it?

Mysterion and Niteshade247 you guys are BOTH correct here. Haiqi Liu seems to already know he is going to spend money for a new engine, BUT he correctly should be prepared to replace a host of other things. There are few cars, save a Rolls Royce or Volvo, that are built well enough for all their parts and systems to last 300,000km without superb maintenance. I have driven over a million rotary miles in seven rotary cars, and though I never had a rotary engine failure, ever, I did have other parts go after high mileage that needed to be repaired and/or replaced, including transmissions, clutches, brakes, suspension etc.

For the cost of such a car plus engine plus work, can you not just buy a more recent car with a good engine or under warranty? It would be worth it to spend a little more to get that IMO.

Holy crap!! Good thing your engine is strong or you would be fighting off a mess of priests trying to administer last rites! Guess there is no way to accuse you of not being a dedicated 8 owner, huh?

hahaha Mysterion if it wasnt for my engine, i'm sure I would have bailed out.

Most of the damages are due to downtown daily driving, i'm looking at approx 3k in parts and labor.
Im really not that dedicated though, just regular maintenance and this car keeps pushing itself to please me ;-)
