buying new spark plugs

I can't seem to find a straight answer on here, I will buy new plugs and wires tomorrow for my 04 m/t 94k miles. What is the best performing plugs I can buy? I have seen a lot of opinions but I am only interested in facts and personal proven experience..

Please share your experience with me so I can make the best decision.

AFAIK, the stock plugs are the best unless you are doing racing.
Leading plugs: NGK RE7CL
trailing plugs: NGK RE9BT

Auto parts store should have them.

These are more expensive than your typical plugs ($20 a piece vs $5), but required for your engine to work properly. These are the same plugs the dealer will sell you with an even steeper markup,

I was under the impression the stock plugs are not great because they had recall issues with the plugs. Are those the upgrades?

I purchased new plugs as recommended on this forum somewhere. And either the person was full of crap, or the dealership stole my plugs and gave me used plugs as a way to save them money and increase profit.

I showed the plug to my mechanic and he said the plug looks to be years old, not days old. So I think the dealership screwed me pretty hard.

Those are the best plugs?

Did you even search what kind of plugs you need? There's literally only one combination that's ever used for a stock car. Where did you find that the spark plugs were recalled? Who recalls spark plugs?

This is exactly the kind of post I had hoped to avoid. You ask If I did research. It is obvious you didn't. The revall was for 2004, 5 and 6 models. Spark plugs were just one aspect of the recall and Mazda started using different spark plugs but as a result people experimented and found alternative solutions.

Now back to the topic at hand, I don't appreciate your condescending reply.

Ok, so it was an issue with the leading spark plugs, with a slightly different plug used after early 2005. Assuming that your 2004 vehicle has had it's spark plugs changed at least once in the last 94,000 miles (it has) then there's a 0% chance that your car has the recalled plug, which has been out of production worldwide since early 2005.

The plugs in my users manual are no longer relevent as mazda does not recommend them anymore.

Did I research? Yes... did you read my original post? No or else you would be able to answer your own question.

The problem is, it is difficult to find legitimate facts without peoples opinions spreading mis information. You say there is "literally" one, but you are wrong because I see people who use different brands, ect... I just want to weed out the opinions and see where the facts stand.

Either respond with a constructive or informing post, or don't reply at all.

These are the correct plugs for a NA car.

Majic,

These are also the plugs recommended by Racing Beat and BHR, 2 of the most reputable aftermarket vendors for the 8. If Mazda had a recall back in 2004/2005, then either they specified a new plug part number, or NGK fixed whatever was wrong.

I heard a horror story from a coworker who used to work at a Mercedes dealership in a past life. They had a "star" tech who would always get his jobs done quickly. One day they discovered a box of brand new parts under his desk that never made it to customers' cars. Post a picture of your plugs and how many miles are supposed to be on them. If they ripped you off on the plugs, they might also have done the same for the coils.

Mazda tried a plug that was one heat range higher for RX-8's in cooler environments like Canada and Northern US to keep cars from potentially flooding or from fouling the plugs in day to day driving. It wasn't a recall, and they didn't recommend them in warmer areas

There are NO benefits to running other than stock plugs in a NA RX-8. They are already the iridium plugs that everyone else upgrades there car too

And try and remain cool ...there is no reason to get all butt hurt when you get opinions from others. You were the one that asked the question that has at least a 1000 answers. Expect to be flamed unless you post stuff like that in the dumb questions thread

Majictoast these the right plugs for your RX8, no need to use anything other in any stock NA RX8 2004-2011..

The only other plugs used by some on their RX8s are the Nippon Denso Iridium Racing plugs, which Nippon Denso and some claim has a better performance at higher rpms and for some track applications. I get them from Advance Auto stores in the US. Most auto store chains can order them for you. They cost about the same as the NGKs.
