Car keeps stalling out and dropping idle
I just bought my 2005 rx8 a month ago and it has just started having issues. I replaced the battery because it was bad thing it would fix the problem. The issue seems to be after I drive for a little while. When I get to a red light or have to stop it drops idle and acts like it wants to choke out. As I was pulling into work this morning it completely shut off on me and wouldn't start back up. This same issue happened two days ago and I got a jump from some one and it started right up. With me putting a new battery in yesterday I'm starting to think that's not the problem. My car has a rough idle, it kinda takes a second to turn over when I start and it sometimes feels like I'm loosing compression. I'm at a loss right now this is the first one I have owned and I have always wanted on, now I'm stuck trying to figure out this new type of engine to me. I need all the help I can get

Hi there, ok.
What's the mileage?
Last time the plugs and coils where change?
Any modifications like a aftermarket intake?
If you get a compression test make sure they do a rotary specific test.
This is a great informative thread. A must read![Wink](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Great, ok
If you don't know the last time your coils and plugs were done, I would start there.
Not sure how mechanically inclined you are but you can check your coils using a HEI Coil tester, and spark plugs are cheap (IMO) so I would just change those.
Catalytic failure is common on the earlier models, so if your cat is plugged that maybe an issue. However this should give you a check engine light for poor catalytic efficiency.
You can take the catalytic off and do a visual check if you want.
So just keep this in the back of your mind.
Poor/failing Compression has been a common issue, getting a compression test isn't expensive and returns a accurate picture of the health of your engine.
Recommend you do this.
The K&N intake is known to cause issues and is a worse design than the OEM intake which is in fact an actual cold air intake.
If you can remove this intake and replace with OEM or the AEM intake or RacingBeat intake.
Do you have a check engine light on?

I have no check engine light on. I was kinda wondering how crap that intake is because of how hot it gets under the hood it kind of defeats the purpose of cold air when you are still sucking in the hot air from the engine compartment. plugs and wires and a fuel filter are next on my list of things to do.

Update I bought an altinator because the dumbasses at autozone told me it was bad when in fact it was my battery. So I bought a new one today and it still wants to shut off when I get to a stop light. I let it sit in my driveway and it idled fine sitting there. My battery cables connections have a little play in them after I tighten them down so my next plan is it buy new connections. I'm on my 3rd drive cycle with it so when I get back to my house which is about 70 miles away I'm going to see how she runs.
