Car Not Starting Need Help Please

Hi everyone,

I've had my 2009 RX-8 for about 3 years now. Last month I tried to start my car and it just won't start at all, it doesn't turn over and there's no noise at all when you turn the key but the interior lights will come on. I have one of the plug in diagnostic tools and it says that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the car at all. I've read some things online about it possibly being an issue with the security system. Would this come up with the diagnostic tool? Has anyone had an issue like this & knows what might be wrong?

Thank you for your help

There is a thread dedicated to starting issues, found in the troubleshooting subforum.
It is titled " starting issues START HERE ".

Follow the instructions and see if it can be solved. If you still have issues, report back here.

Possibly.
Is the 'Key' light flashing?
Check your fuses first, especially the engine fuse.

Thank you RX8Soldier I will definitely check out that thread.

The key light isn't flashing BigCajun. I did recently purchase a new key (which works), but the car stopped working like the day before my original key broke. I got the car used and the dealer only gave me the one key. I programmed the new key myself. At first I thought it was a problem with the new key but i set off the beeping alarm and I used my new key to turn it off so that has to mean the key works right?

I've checked all fuses and everything is good. I'm just totally stumped by this. Thank you all for all of your suggestions.

The lock/unlock button on the key is programmed separately from the actual security chip inside the key. The new key needs to be programmed to the car, which can be done yourself if you have 2 other working keys... but I guess that's not the case, so you need the dealer to do it. Your original broken key may still start the car, depends what broke on it.
