Cel + flashing Cel / FD spark plugs

Hey guys ... I spent my weekend with swapping the engine of my RX8! Installed a fresh rebuild! New engine is working fine and sounds nice and smooth, however i got the cell light on and sometimes it goes over to flashing! Now as ive read a flashing CEL indicates a misfire!

Since I have an FD which i have highly modified and i run 9's all around for sparkplugs with good results... and i had a brand new set of 9's lying around and after checking clearence and since other members use fd plugs aswell (although 7's and 9's) I thought id give the 9's all around a shot in the renesis and see how it works.... Sorry if i sound stupid but could that be causing a slight misfire and throwing a flashing cel?

The other issue I had when swapping the Ignition Coil Bracket from the old engine to the rebuild core one bolt snapped! I ziptied everything so that it wouldnt rattle... could that also be a reason?

Other than that i cant think of anything else... Coils are only 10k miles old.... i dont know how old the plug wires are even with the broken engine i didnt get a cel when i drove it from home to my garage! I just got the cel after the rebuilt engine install...

So before i order new plugs / wires and coils i would like to check if its just the wrong plugs that are causing the issue since they are 9's all around... Leading and trailing!?

Thx in advance

Coils, plugs, and wires last around 30K miles at the upper end on RX-8s. I have seen coils fail in as little as 5K miles. One of mine failed at 9K miles. They are wearable items on this car that need to be monitored constantly and changed together as a unit relatively frequently.

You might consider spending the money on a BHR ignition kit. Its coils and wires will last the life of the car.

I would not run any other plugs than OEM in a Renesis engine. There is zero benefit to doing that, and plenty of potential for problems.

yeah i guess ill go with uprated coils.... I bought the car a month ago for a ridiculous price and bought a rebuilt engine which arrived on friday so i still have a lot of things to do on that car regarding upgrades plus i only know what ive been told and given paperwork about regarding the history.... so coils could be even older... its just weird that the old engine with a worn e-shaft bearing did not throw a cel light but the new one does where the only difference are the spark plugs and a missing bolt of the coil bracket ... i guess ill order the oem rx8 plugs and uprated coils and wires...ill keep you guys posted!

It will just come back. Running FD plugs in an NA Renesis is retarded.
