CEL goes away after reset... out of the woods yet?
CEL light up on my stock 2005 rx8 last night.
Code indicated ignition issues due to solenoid... Probably from wear and tear. Explained why I was having sluggish acceleration when the cel was on.
Mechnanic went ahead to reset and now the cel went away... Drive feels normal... So just wondering if i'm out of the woods? Or should i still replace the ssv?

Thanks for the input guys.. this community is kept alive by you helpful folks.
The CEL error code is P2259. Searched the forum and saw some other people with the same issue replacing the solenoid.
Looks like it's time for mine to be changed as well..

I bought this car from a used car dealer.. 7 year old with 119,000KM (74,000 miles) on the odo. So I'm not able to tell when the previous owner changed the plugs/coils.
Yeah and I guess P2259 does not directly relate to ignition... I might have misunderstood what the mechanic was trying to say. But could coils and plugs relate to a P2259?
I understand that there are 3 solenoids in our 8... are we able to tell which needs replacing base on the P2259 code - on a side note, I get a whiff of burning fumes in the cabin when revving the car to above 6 RPM... and idling is rougher than I will like.. After a search I believe those are symptoms to a worn solenoid too yes?

Coils and plugs have nothing to do with a P2259.
Good news is the solenoids are not that expensive and are not that hard to replace.
It requires the removal of the UIM.
A 2005 with that many miles and no history of when the coils and plugs have been replaced... Just change them.
If its a failed SSV solenoid and the SSV is in the OPEN position then, yes I would say it would impact your idle in a negative manner.
Rough idle can lots of thing:
Bad engine mounts
Poor compression
Bad ignition
Just to name a few.
Catalytic converter is a common problem causing power loss or/and poor idle and power.
The symptom on smelling a whiff of fumes in the cabin at 6k rpm ... well to me that likely means you have an exhaust leak, or the sun roof open or a window open (really).
Now a stinky exhaust can mean a failed catalytic.
I would attack one problem at a time.
Start with the solenoid by removing the Upper Intake Manifold.
