Cel - p0076 - p0661
Hi guys!
I just bought myself an RX-8 wich had a reman installed the day before i bought it.(Also had the clutch, radiator and thermostat replaced)
I drove the care home and the next day I got a CEL, i took it to my local Mazda dealer to pull the codes and they were P0076 and P0061. I've read around the forum and now know that they are related to the solenoids on the intake manifold.
I have a 6000km/6month warranty on the car so I'll have it fixed at the dealership, I'm just wondering if I should be worried about driving the car for the next week or two with this problem? Couldn't really find anything about the symptoms I might expect, or wich further damage might be caused by driving.
Also is it likely that this problem is a result of the job they did, bad parts on the reman or reused parts that just happened to fail now?
The dealership which replaced the engine is kind of far away, thats why I'm not going there to get it fixed immediatley.`
Thanks alot for any advice!

Did you get the compression test before purchasing the car?
Compression test is not relevant to the problem you are experiencing but very is very critical
Also, if its covered under warranty then have it fixed asap. The Car is drive-able, though it will lack some performance and may cause more damage i guess.
Hope someone with more knowledge on the issue chimes in soon. But get that compression tested asap

Hey man, thank you for your answer.
The engine was just replaced though because of low compression and I have a 2 year warranty on the job so I feel like getting a compression test done on it is abit redundant.

Sounds to me as though they installed a short-block and reused parts that may or may not have caused problems leading to the car needing the engine done. By all means, if the car is from a dealer, get those issues corrected ASAP. As Khurram suggested, they could cause cat damage which, in turn, could cause engine damage. You might be wise to get them to check the condition of the cat while they are at it, just to be on the safe side.

I called the dealership which changed the engine today, they will have their mechanic look at the codes and get back to me. Hopefully they will agree to let the local mazda dealership change this solenoid(s) as I dont really believe you would need a specialized RX8 mechanic for this job.
I'll have them look at the cat once I get it into the shop.
Thank you!

Just a quick update here, Mysterion was indeed right it was a short block swap and it's the old SSV solenoid wich needs replacing. The local Mazda dealership is saying that the solenoids only come in a set with all three of them, so I'm getting the other 2 replaced aswell.
Luckily the original dealership is owning up to the warranty without any fuss, so looks like a happy ending.
