WI Central wisconsin!!! Day three of ownership!

I was in the market for a vehicle, I wa searching 8k and under. Looking at a lot of cobalts and other things I thought to myself... Hmm for 8k or less I can something a lot sportier then some fwd supercharged pos... Well my buddy had a rx8 a few years back and I loved how it drove. Needless to say two days ago I bought my first rx8 with 88k on body and a little over 20k on engine and transmission replaced under warranty by Mazda.

Today I decided I would check the air filter and the spark plugs.

First thing I found was oil in the intake... Thank god I made my own oil catch can at work a few months back...

I made the catch can pretty long so I installed it on the only spot I could fit Her for now. So for now she is mounted on the air box, which isn't too bad because the engine cover hides it.

As you can see I bought her pretty dirty under the hood.

Next thing I did was remove the sound dividers and install a aftermarket filter inplace of the horn since my stock filter was trashed anyway...

Then I pulled the spark plugs and found that both the lead and trailing spark plugs were carboned up pretty bad. When shinning a light into the rotor housing I could see that the rotor too had some build up... It's crazy too because these are only 1 year old... But they only have 4k miles on them so I feel like the car really wasn't driven like it was supposed too.

I pulled the dip stick and saw she was about a quart low and according to some crap hole oil place sticker it was already at 3300 miles sice last oil change. So changed the oil and filter while I was at it.

After I let her warm up I noticed my crap idle no longer existed. I took it around the block to open her up and hopefully clear some carbon out. A few times it started miss firing In the real high revvs. A couple times later I have noticed that it cleared up. Thinking there is a lot of **** too burn off in there based off what I have seen.

Anyone have any recommendations on how I can clean her out faster without causing any damage???

Welcome!

Those misfires may be coil pack related I would highly recommend you check those out.

You may want to try rehosting those photos it doesn't work so well if you just cross post from another forum

After some very excessive driving the miss has gone away for the most part. I do believe the coils are over due. The engine was replaced with a short block at 62k miles. At that time it got new plugs and wires. At 84k miles the transmission and clutch were replaced. At that time they replaced plugs and wires again. Car now has a 88k miles and I believe coils are factory still.

Wouldn't be surprised they usually don't last more than 30k of "normal" driving. Mine lasted about 4 track days

Yeah I'm going to do a ls2 coil swap. Being a fabricator does pay off at some point lol.

Yeah at high rpms itll randomly cut off and nose dive for a split second then take off like nothing happened.
