chip for my car?

Hi everyone. I recently bought a 2007 rx8 and I love the car! It is my first sports car ever and I believe that mazda really put it's best foot forward in making this car. I had a question though. I was looking at putting an aftermarket chip in my car. This is the website: Electronics - Gauges | Computer Chip - Performance
I was just wondering if anyone had ever done this before and if it works well. I was also wondering if it will damage the car? It's not worth damaging my car but I would love to do this if I am able. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks!

Excerpt from:
https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...rx-8-a-233937/
Every single "ECU chip" is a complete scam for our car. At best it's the same as taping a couple $100 dollar bills to your ECU, at worst it can fry your $1,800 ECU. Our ECU is too smart to be fooled into doing anything more than a few miles, and the OEM tune is already close enough to perfect that the ham-fisted approach of trying to fool it in a narrow set of circumstances while crippling it in the rest is a recipe for engine destruction.
There is alot more involved, so I recommend reading the thread. That bit is in only the 3rd post, and all the power stuff is up at the top.

It also describes the methods and ways that you CAN tune the ECU in the car. Those chips just aren't the way.

Unfortunately the only "chip" that has been proven to provide any gain in performance is a flashing of the oem ECU via an Accessport or through the MazdaEdit software.

Dont waste your money on gimmick products like this as it will do more harm than good!

link is still busted, but it won't change our opinion. A "chip" that works on another car, like a Civic, is just a resistor that changes the MAF or O2 sensor signal to fool the engine into running richer or leaner. The RX-8's ECU (and virtually every other modern ECU) has so many checks and balances that it knows what you did even if you install it correctly, and will either compensate if it can, just cripple everything and put the car into a limp mode until it's removed, or compensate incorrectly and boom goes the engine.

If you want to change how the engine performs, then just change the data tables in the ECU to give it new values to aim for.

It's like you are trying to get something from a shelf 10ft above the floor. A chip would be like cutting off your left arm, and using your right arm to swing the disembodied left arm at what you are trying to get, hoping to knock it off the shelf. Using a reflash tool would be like getting a ladder and climbing up there to retrieve it.

The analogy is troubling....

But, aimed in the right direction... there are tuners out there. I had mine done and it made a difference and ended up paying for itself in fuel savings. Before you go that route though, get EVERYTHING ELSE up to par. I would run through the $100 thread in my sig as well as address coils and plugs. then your tuner has a solid starting place.

I wanted something that suitibly demonstrates the kind of harm it would be doing trying to clumsily and haphazardly accomplish it's goal

from that view, it was right on..

The whole "process visualization" was the disturbing part.
