cold starting complications

Hi,

Ill start by saying, I have an optima redtop and refurbished 2kw starter.

I had the engine decarbonized recently also.

I had hot start problems but after upgrading the starter, it starts right away when it is hot. But it is becoming difficult to start when it is cold.

I had the dealership chsnge the spark plugs and coils. I removed the plugs, and they look OLD!!!! I HAVE HALF A MIND TO GO HAVE WORDS WITH THEM!

anyways, anyone got any ideas? I also seem to be having some misfires.

Can you post a picture of the plugs? Definitely shouldn't look have deposits on them so soon after changing.

Do you get significant white smoke out of the tail pipe on cold start up, by chance?

I did after getting the car back, becore i changed my starter... one time i had HORRIBLE white smoke that went on for about 5 minutes. I mean it was thick like my car magically turned into the worlds most powerful Ecig for a bit... but not since. I am having misfires now. Feels like when the car starts cold, it is fighting to stay alive, but after it warms up. All good

When you pulled the plugs, were there coolant deposits on them?
Because what you're describing sounds like coolant seal failure.

Majictoast also had problems with the car overheating, and missing undertray, and some radiator fans not acting right. That could all add up to coolant system problems.

Here is his previous thread for reference:

Toast, have you noticed the coolant level decreasing?

My overheating issue is almost resolved.

The csr only overheats if I use my airconditioning. Under no circumstances can I use it. I upgraded my fans to 1730 cfm each so its like 3460 cfm almost.

Any suggestions?

For the starting problem, you may want to get your fuel pump checked.
Try leaving the key on for a few extra seconds before you try to start it.
I usually turn my key on, buckle my seat belt, then start it.
It seems to start a tad faster that way than just turning it on in one motion.

I will be buying new plugs and wires today. I will show pocs of the old plugs which are suppose to be 1 month old.

I also keep having issues with power steering, just terrible connectivity in the plug... cleaning it is very difficult.

Picture of my plugs. Just replaced them. I paid the dealerahip to replace my plugs one month ago. Do these plugs look like they are one month old? Im faily convinced they stole the brand new plugs i gave them, and just never changed them. And charged me for it. Im so furious... should i go back and raise hell?

EDIT, Hey BigCajun, I took your advice and leaving the key turned for a few seconds does help out a lot, but ontop of it all my car sputters at 7,000rpm, I am having misfires. well maybe not anymore, I got new plugs and wires so... we will see, I expect to regain all of my lost power and I expect my cold starting issues to be resolved now.

Thank you everyone for your helpful posts.

1 month and how many miles?
I mean they're not terrible, but they don't look fresh (in a normally running engine on good gas.. how is gas quality where you are)?
