Compression issues

I was wondering if anyone can help me or guide me in the right direction. I am looking to buy an 04 rx8 with 81000 miles but ran into a compression problem. I had it looked at and was told that the apex seals are good it is the pis or rods that are making it lose compression. Can anyone tell me how to fix it without the dealer price tag or if it's worth it to get the car thanx

Um, whomever told you all that is lying.

If the compression test failed, then it is the seals. It doesn't matter if it is the apex seals or the side seals. Low compression means a full engine rebuild, or a replacement engine. If the 2004 is an automatic, you are looking at $4,500 for the engine MINIMUM, plus shipping and labor. If it is a manual, that engine price is $3,300.

"Cheap" rebuilds typically last less than 10,000 miles, and proper rebuilds will run you $2,500 - $4,500 for each engine type.

This engine has no pistons or rods.

You can find a car with good compression from the beginning.

There are Mazda techs and then there are rotary techs and never the twain shall meet. Anyone who blames non-existent parts for a problem shouldn't be trusted with anyone's car care. Next car you look at, phone Mazda dealers first and locate one with a rotary tech on staff then use that dealership for the compression test. You might pay a bit more for the test but at least you can rest assured it will be done correctly.
