Compression Test Result/rebuild or buy from Dealer
Hey Rx8club members, I have a 2004 Rx8 4 port Auto 125k miles on 3rd engine 49k rebuild 79k rebuild both by Mazda... Yes its auto.. This car has sentimental value to me being it was a family members car for years battling cancer.. it has sat for 4 years and I have decided to get it back to being healthy.
I noticed right away the hot starting was an issue, BHR ignition new spark plugs MSD wires.. put an Autozone starter in it when I first got the car going still cranking when hot but will start after sitting for acouple minutes. The car runs, starts cold everytime, no check engine lights but just hot starting is the main issue which lead to getting the compression test you see.
This brings me to here... where I wanted to ask, should I go the route of having a professional rebuild the engine or buy an engine through Mazda?
I understand its auto, 4 port, low power, etc but this is something I want to do for my brother who loved his car. Thanks for any reply. ( Vacuum results 8-12 inches at operating temp )

I'm pretty sure you can't buy a factory engine anymore unless the situation has changed recently.
Go ahead and check, jic.
A pro rebuild is probably your best option.
Idk if anyone rebuilds automatics, but I never really thought about it.
Your results will depend on the condition of your engine.
In this thread is a good post by Kevin from Rotary Resurrection explaining expectations and results relating to budget rebuilds that's very enlightening.
I've tried to keep the list of known rebuilders up to date, if you should find anyone not on the list, please let me know.
