Congratulations, you got an 8.

This also reminds me of a question:
Does a stock RX-8 advance timing for 94 versus 91 fuel? Or just stick with 91?

I may have access to a dyno in the summer... Might be interesting to see if there is any difference between Shell V-Power 91 and Chevron 94(which is the only gas station that sells 94 in BC, Canada) on a mostly stock 8.

I know in some cars, the car would advance the timing until it detects a knock, and then it sticks to the timing before the knock happened.

It'll be interesting to see dyno results, if there's any difference at all.

I have been lurking and learning for quite some time. I did quite a bit more lurking, learning and searching when I bought Smoky:
Smoky the day I bought it with a blown motor.
It is my first rotary, and it came with a spare box of motor with intake and other stuff, I put it all together, on the cheap, and then after back to back Seafoam processes:
Seafoam process on junkyard motor!
I took it to the dealer to get the recalls caught up, both air bags, lower A arms and fuel pump. Mind you the motor in it is a temp, its an auto motor but the car is a 6 spd. It still needs some work, today I am going to tackle the heater control and resolder that. But I figured I needed to post at least an intro somewhere on the forum. I'll post more as I rebuild the blown motor this winter, it munched a bearing. Tear down should be interesting.....
I mostly hang out on GRM and the build thread there is Smoky the Magnificent, A Tale of Magic Spinning Doritos if you are curious
Many thanks for all the great information on this site that has allowed me to get this far with Smoky!

Just curious, is this an automatic or are S2s configured differently in Australia? Because the R3 wing is not possible to add to the other trims with manual trans unless you are fine with replacing the entire trunk lid. Other trims with manual trans has the small duck lip spoiler.
I know manual trans Spirit R RX-8s come with gold 19" or 20" wheels. Yours look like the 18" ones though. Someone probably just painted them.

For reference, Australian Luxury is called GT in North America(what I have), while Australian GT is called R3 in North America(and I think everywhere else). In North America at least, that wing comes stock with R3(Australian GT) and can be bought as an accessory for other trims with an automatic transmission.
I also prefer the Series 2 gearbox. Test drove a Shinka for someone on the forum a while ago and the S2 gearbox feels more mechanical, if that makes sense. It's also a bit tougher than S1 box. S1 units are made by Aisin, while S2 P66M-D units are made in-house by Mazda.

Been doing a bit of digging seems the spoiler was a factory option. Also I found specs on a model which comes with navigation and DVD also voice recognition but have never seen one here.

And yeah, I have the navigation. It doesn't really make that much of a difference.
The thing is, I don't really mind it if Mazda updates them, but nope, the last update was from 2014. My old Honda Accord V6 Coupe also had a DVD-based navigation unit and Honda is still publishing updates for those. Sure they are super expensive, but it's at least an option.

Retrofitting a factory navigation is difficult from what I understand, and just not worth it due to the lack of support.
Personally, I actually like the S1 nav more. My old Accord Coupe had something similar to the S1 unit, and I prefer it because I don't have to take my eyes off the road for too long every time I check the directions.

new rx8 owner
Yes, I just bought a 2006 rx8 with only 15000 kilometres on it. The previous owner only drove it about 1200K per year, nevertheless there were several negative things about it. The car was sold with Chinese HiFly tires on it, the recalls involving potential fuel pump problems and takata air bags were not fixed, and the car came with only 1 key. As a result, new tires were put on it, Goodyear Weather Ready 18 inch, and the recalls were fixed. A new key without the fob cost $264CDN. Also the car was rustproofed with Krown, however it won’t be driven in winter. The automatic lock motor in the drivers door appears to be broken. Next job is to change the oil so I know what’s in it. It also has the Mazdaspeed intake and the large Mishimoto aluminum radiator and fan system.
In the 200km I’ve driven it to get stuff done the car seems to be impressive. Other than the negative notes above, the car and paint are flawless as is the rideability.

And I pick up my new-to-me 2004 RX8 next Sunday. I think I've got a stunner with a totally flawless MoT record, 12 dealer stamps in the book, 64,000 miles and a picky and fastidious previous owner who has maintained this car impeccably. The car had not been modded and has the usual things replaced with OEM wherever needed.
I totally don't care about the MPG as this will be a weekend bit of fun to blast around the Suffolk countryside.
I've been reading and reading and reading this forum and others - the learning curve is steep!
