It is 4 port with auto. So here's the deal after spending $5k on my vert rebuild in June another car was not in the budget. Wife said if I got one it had to be an automatic so she could get some seat time. To find one that had the motor rebuilt at the same time and same place as my vert I couldn't pass it up chassis only has 60k. Besides if I want to beat on something I will beat on the vert it's a 5speed with mods. The 8 is a blast to drive and I don't always like to be bothered with shifting. It also has no rattles compared to my 24 year old rx7 whic

Ok that explains why you got an auto. Is the rebuilt 4port ,as you say 'banzai racing engine', performance modified from a stock 4-port or just a stock 4-port rebuilt by banzai ?

Banzai just did the rebuild. Stock 4 port it's getting @ 20-23 mpg depending on how I drive. Which is lovely because my modified vert is lucky to get 15-17 mpg. To be honest I didn't want to buy the first year of the 8, because Mazda fixed some of the obvious problems in years to follow. But with new rebuild, rims & tires, exhaust, cat, tint it was hard to say no! And as a bonus I found some more cool people that love rotary's as much as me.

I think any remans post 2006 are pretty good. I wouldn't buy an 04 with an original engine though. But I could be wrong.

This is the 2nd engine for mine had a Mazda reman put in at 33k which apparently sucked too because Banzai rebuilt it at 59k. Runs great so far....been premixing and bought Sohn omp adapter kit and praying for the best.

You should also add cleaning the Eccentric Shaft Sensor, specially if the owner has an older RX8. Cleaning this sensor is as easy as changing the spark plugs and can return some noticeable idle and drive quality. Some might argue that this sensor is more important than the maf.

All new owners should know where to find the Mazda Work Shop manual online
http://www.blackhaloracing.com/shopmanual/

And for those that purchased their car used and didn't get an owners manual
http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/pdf/...004_owners.pdf

Plus! All new owners should know that the white RX8's are the fastest and have at least 30,000 WHP more than any other colour.
damn straight! white is right! (dang that sounds really racist, oops)

All very helpful hints! I really appreciate it. I'll have to get started on these immediately.

Finally decided to give that star washer method a try. I also took pictures of the locations of the points you told me about a while ago, just in case others users want to use it as reference.

Horrible photo, but deep down next to the oil filter (12mm nut)

I believe there is another one behind the left front wheel near the spark plugs, too lazy to lift the car and check, but as far as I remember, it's a 12mm bolt as well. Any other points I may have missed?

Cool,

There are some on the engine. One is behind the oil filter, another is on the pass side, just in front of the intake down pipe.

That looks a lot easier and cleaner than running huge wire all over the place.

Good work.

@ Jaz,

There is one just forward of the oil filter, on the rear housing. And one on the other side, I think on the center iron.

Did it make a difference?

Great Thread, BUMP!

I did the cabin air filter and good god that thing was dirty, it was probably the OEM filter with all sorts of crap in there and appears never to have been changed or cleaned out. I used a brush and pulled everyrthing out and now the thing vents like a beast even when I have the system turned off, there is air flowing through like crazy. I Since the filter itself was pretty dirty I decided to just buy new ones off Amazon so it is brand new. This got me to even check my Mazda 3 and my wife's CX7 and swap those filters out too!

I also did the ESS cleaning and the fans on low mod (just connected a wire from the relay pring and ran it to the sidewall and grounded it, did not have to solder).

I really need to do the Foam around the radiator thing since my ultragauge is reading 212 after hot weather driving with the AC on blast. When I shut the car off it sat in the garage with the fans blasting high for over 5 minutes, probably upwards of 10 I didnt keep track before I freaked out and put the key in the ignition and flipped it and turned it off.

The grounding kit looks like a good idea since I have a definite change in rpm and stutter when I turn the AC on and also a lot of stutter/vibration when sitting at stop lights the car shakes around quite a bit at times. (I find if I push the clutch in it doesnt rattle as much).
