Considering 2012 Mazda RX-8 1.3 (Model 03-08) Roadster Coupe AT

Hey Guys,

I've signed up here as I am considering buying an RX-8 in Bangkok, Thailand. Here is the best I've seen so far: https://www.one2car.com/en/for-sale/...phisek/7062930 - the price is of course way higher than in many other places around the world so let's not focus on that. It's actually hard to have anything even remotely cool within this price range in Thailand as far as I know.

I took this one for a test drive today. It sounds and handles perfectly. Allegedly there is a new engine here which has only 10,000 kilometres on it. I am waiting for some documents confirming it if I can get it.

I've read that these types of engines can cause troubles but if it's new, maybe I can get away with it for a few years. The dealer gives a warranty for one month for the engine and transmission. Shall I request the warranty for anything else which can cause troubles that quickly?

Is there anything I am not seeing/knowing?

I am also aware that there might be problems with getting spare parts to RX-8 in Thailand. It might be hard to find the right mechanic if stuff goes wrong (especially with the engine). Generally, I am looking for a car to have fun in on the weekends and whenever I feel like it in the city and beyond. It's not for the daily commute. I'd like this to ride for a few years without any major issues and necessity of working on it in a garage for half a year or so...

What are your thoughts? Take it or leave it?

Please let me know

That's a base model automatic. The slowest (4-port), least fun and most expensive to repair version of the car. If you're going to spend the money, see if there isn't a better option?

Also I'm confused by the year. That's a 2003-5 manufacture date judging by the wheels. It's not a 2012.

03-08 means 8th month of 2003. I agree, it's not a great car (definitely not a 2012 lol) but if you just want the look of the car and not the performance, it works well enough. Try to get a compression test done ideally or if you can't, restart the engine when fully warmed up. If it starts hot, compression probably isn't an issue. At least right now anyways... also the price is just ridiculous. 550k Baht is like $17,500 USD. That car is worth max like $4500 lol. Just import one from Beforward or something.
