Coolant seal broken??

hey guys. New to here. Don’t know much about the rotary. Story goes,, bought the car at 80k miles(private dealership, no warranty) at around 90k car has starting issues. Starts fine when cold, but when hot takes 20-30 minutes to start.

last week I noticed coolant leaking under engine.
I jacked it up, so the front of the car was at a slope. Started the car while it was on the jack, and it had coolant of course. After starting to see where the leak is coming from, a mass amount of white dense smoke is coming out of the muffler (not engine). Now this was not happening 10 minutes before I put it on the jack and started it. Didn’t have smoke or anything.

2 weeks ago I put in new coolant, fresh oil with filter, engine restorer, and fuel injector cleaning.

What at do you guys think, for starters it definitely has a leak and I think I saw the leak coming from a metal hose that connects from engine to radiator. But only after I jacked it up it started smoking a lot, which makes me nervous. Not starting it again until my friend checks it out this week.

Your thiughts and opinions would really help.

Different people are are telling me engine is toast, coolant seal is broken, etc.
the car starts and runs.

Smell the exhaust and see if it smells sweet also check the oil and the coolant to make sure they seem normal. Also see if there is coolant coming out of the exhaust

hot start issues are usually a sign of bad compression. you could also have lost a coolant seal. either one requires a rebuild or a new/reman motor.

read the new owners threads, all of them

find where you are leaking coolant. the oem rad nipple breaks when trying to replace the expansion tank fyi

get a pressure/leak test on cooling system then think about getting a rotary specific compression test

as i said low compression or coolant seal failure will require a rebuild or reman motor

Would you know how much that would cost?
Also if I sold it as is what could I get for it?

a mazda reman is about 3500 iirc with 1k core charge. plus incidentals if you doing the work your self plan about 4k. low comp 8s are dirt cheap atm

When you jacked up the front of the car was up? The smoke from the exhaust could just be water condensation in the muffler. You tilted, so it could have shifted. If it's not happening on level ground, I wouldn't worry about it.

The hot start issues are a pretty good sign the engine is done, so we're back to needing a rebuilt engine.

Yeah it still smoked when it was ground level too. Should’ve never started it while tilted, think it triggered something bad

No, tilting a car doesn't trigger anything. Cars don't die every time you go up a hill or a accelerate.

Whatever was wrong, was already wrong.

As for the external coolant leak, check the coolant overflow tank for cracks. Very common.

Yeah the car starts and runs. I’m confidence the smoke is just from a leak or a crack somewhere. Because it wasn’t smoking until I jacked it up which doesn’t make sense. But I do think it’s time for a rebuilt, or sell it as is. A friend of mine still has to inspect it
