Thought I would just take some time to introduce myself as I am soon to be a new owner of a series 2 RX8. This will be my first rotary car, but not my first mazda. I have owned 2 gen one speed 3's and a speed 6.
I have been reading through the new member stickies, and its refreshing to still see forums that are well structured and provide useful information. I have not answered all the noob questions I have about the rx8 yes, but im still reading so hopefully I find them without having to make thread asking about it.
My plans with the car are to make it my autocross/trackday car. I actually hope to autocross it this weekend if everything goes as planned as it will be the last one in my area before the season is over. I look forward into developing the car into a competitive car in my region and maybe more if I have the time to dedicate to competing at the national level.
Im sure you will see my chiming in more and more threads, and I will likely start a build thread when im prepared for the first mods to the car. I'll post pics of it here after I pick it up.
Hi! Where in Iowa are you? Hit up dmvrscca.org or the DMVR SCCA facebook page to find local events in the Des Moines area. We just had our last event this weekend, Iowa region has one more event in a couple weeks.
I am in the quad city area. The GRR region has its last AX of the season this weekend so I will likely do that one. Champaign County IL goes into the first weekend of November, and I am a big fan of that group, but we have plans for a concert in Chicago that weekend, so I wont be able to go to that one.
Well I have tried to upload a pic of the car a couple times and that does not appear to be getting approved for whatever reason.
Another question, are there any rear diff mount options, other than just new poly bushings to press in. It seems this car has several suspension clunks, and some wheel hop to deal with.
Hello happy rotoring!
Be careful with wheel hopping, it may damage the oem delicate diff.
Poly bushings may confuse the dsc system when engaged. If you don't use it on steet though, they may be better?
Wheel hopping is an issue only when it is rainy/wet in my case, it has a sweet spot to launch it good but the racers here will have better knowledge and tricks on this.
Ps. I think you have to post some more to upload pics.
So is there no aftermarket diff mount option? In the mazdaspeed world motor mounts and diff mounts on the 6 where basically required for any kind of spirited driving.
Found another thing for the car. It’s throwing a code P0076.
I think this is called something else on the RX8 but it appears this might be related to the butterfly valves in the intake manifold. On the speeds this system was called VTCS, if memory serves me.
I am going to keep googling, but thought I would mention it if someone has a quick reference to this if it’s a super common issue or not.
I have also already ordered an oil change kit and coils, plugs, and wires from rotary bum. This car does seem to idle a bit rough so gona start with that and cleaning the maf, and e shaft sensor
I wimped out and added a front license plate to my car, didn't want to give anyone any extra reasons to pull me over. What kind of exhaust does it have? Did the bumper have to be enlarged to fit the quad tips?
Its a racing beat cat back. Idk if it was an earlier version or something that had quad tips. Been looking for a test pipe to pair up with it, cause the cat needs to go.
P0076 is one of the intake valve solenoids (or the connection to it). There are 3: SSV, VDI and the startup air pump, they're in a bank under the upper intake. You can either replace them all or try to figure out which specific one is the problem.
It'll definitely not run well if the intake valves aren't behaving properly.
Over the weekend my friend and I got some work done to the car.
replaced endlinks on all 4 corners, replaced the tie rods. New coils, plugs, and wires. The end links and tie rods where pretty shot, so now all the suspension clunks are gone. Got the car aligned. This weekend I plan on installing the Elite Rotary race pipe as well.
One thing I noticed was these weird vaccum sources off the intake. I’m curious if this is how it is stock or if I need to fix this. Pics below
Installed the Elite Rotary race pipe today. Surprisingly little change to the tone of the car, feels more free though, and the tunnel isn’t trying to scald my leg on longer drives
