Cost to paint MS Side Skirts

Does anyone know the cost to repaint the oem MS sideskirts 27b winning blue. Also they do need to be sanded down since they were used no cracks or anything just some minor scratches. In all does anyone know how much ill be looking to spend? Thanks in advance

Yes you need to sand. If the clear is good you can probably get away without priming. If you sand it down and de grease it yourself, there's no problem with letting maaco spray it. Good paint is all in the prep, which should be cake for a side skirts. Going this route I'd guess around $200, but I prepped and painted my own car.

Or, you know, go get an estimate...

DIY help painting side skirts

Ok so I just got my MS sideskirts in titanium grey, the cost to repaint them so far is $200-300. However since im short on money i was wondering if i should just do the job myself by repainting the skirts using manufacturer paint in aerosol cans on expresspaint.com. Any thoughts? Also yes ill be sanding it down, then putting on primer then base then clear. Mainly wondering if manufacturer aerosol can would work.

No, get them painted professionally. Unless they are replica Mazdaspeed sideskirts then just do whatever because they will look like **** either way.

I must agree if they are authentic MS and your not 3xperienced just wait till you save the $$. Ms parts aren't meant for practice.

Painting is a lot more than just sanding, primer and paint. Many think it's simple so they take the task on themselves and usually it ends in a fail, hence 9K's comment.

If after this your still planning on doing it yourself well I have a few tips.

Make sure you have sanding blocks and tack cloth. If you sand with your hand on the paper you WILL leave markings from it.

I also must suggest you use an air or electric palm sander. They are designed to not leave any "pattern" which inexperienced hands will.

After you sand everything down make sure you rinse the parts clean. After it drys and you inspect to make sure your good then tack cloth it.

Seal off an area with hanging plastic, use a double Layer overlapping door for entry and exit. Make sure you have space to hang them and enough area to move around for a 360deg paint coverage.

Even with 'factory paint' in aerosol cans you won't get the same finish. No matter how good the person/machine loading these cans is the mixture is wrong and has a few other additions to it.

If you do this, it can look good but it will never fully match.

Hope that helps and good luck

Travis

DIY painting sideskirts

Hey guys so ive gotten a few quotes to paint my MS sideskirts and so far ive been quoted around $650. This price is absolutely over my limit so if i cant find any cheaper I plan on just painting it myself. Ive already got a good sander and would just buy a really good commpressor/paint gun. So my question is has anyone ever painted their sideskirts that can give me the steps on how to do so properly. Yes i know i should probably just send them in to be done but i simply cant afford the cost and have expereince painting and sanding before and cant stand them just sitting in my garage so yeah. Thanks for any help

Unless I am grossly mistaken, the side skirts, like other Mazdaspeed trim parts, are some manner of plastic compound. If such is the case, it is HIGHLY ADVISABLE to use not just regulars body paint but body paint with flex additive added. This is due to the likelihood of said plastic parts flexing due to wind buffeting. Failure to use a flex additive will likely result in cracking and flaking of the paint over time.

Best advice, do it right or don't do it at all. A half-assed job will give you half-assed results in the long run and wind up costing you more than the cost to do it right.
