Do O2 sensor spacers help with a P0420 code?

Whether or not the cat is gutted? Just picked up the car and got the code after 20 miles. Can smell the exhaust at a stop light so I think the cat is gutted or has a straight pipe. All emissions monitors are complete but don't like the CEL being on all the time.

I searched with "O2 sensor spacer" in the title and came up with just a couple of 8 year old posts saying it may work in 2004s. That's why I posted here. Maybe somebody has more experience to say if they work on these cars, or on just 2004s.
