IL Dream car 1/1

Hello everyone, I am new here. Just got a 05 Shinka. Really love this good looking little car. I used to have a 09 mazdaspeed3 and surely I fall in love with Zoom-Zoom family. I have been a long time lurker and finally I could join you guys with a proper RX-8. Really glad to be here!!!

My car have several defects and I am working on them. The biggest problem now is that the clutch was burned out and I have to install a new one on it. The other bad news is that it seem to have a starter problem which I have already put a new one on it. It seem that I am encountering the same problem like this: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...ywheel-182025/

I will post updates and questions here shortly.

Anyway, glad to be here!

Did you get a compression test?
You should if you didn't.

Can’t do a compression test, the starter wasn’t cranking the flywheel which means rotors weren’t rotating. But I figured it out that I bought a 13B-REW starter and I have ordered a new N3Z1-18-400 which should fit. Once I have the new starter I will do a compression test right away.

IL Update day 1

So the problem of the new starter is that it’s for 13B-REW, a WRONG one. I have ordered the new starter and waiting for delivery. Now I am removing the transmission in order to change the flywheel and clutch. Today is day 1 and I finished removing the exhaust system. A LOT of work since the exhaust is stocked at the connection part. I used a hammer and a screwdriver to hit the edge of the exhaust and unfasten it. After 7 hours of work it finally came out. Planning to empty the transmission fluid and remove the driveshaft tomorrow.
BTW, the car installed with Coilovers and I tried to level them up. It went pretty well with first 3 of them. But the last one is really tight that I literally have no idea how to adjust it. Does anyone have some ideas to deal with tight coilovers?

The WRONG starter

Are you in an area with emissions inspection?
If so you'll need a cat.
It would be easier to put one on now than put that back on, then have to replace it with a cat on your initial inspection, then take it off again if you choose to go catless.

I see you got WD40 there. It's not really a great penetrating lubricant, try liquid wrench or something like that for the stuck coilover.

PB Blaster is the best imo.
We use it in our machine shop also.

Hello BigCajun, I have double checked that I don't need a emission test here at Champaign. Actually there are only two areas need emission test in IL, one is Chicago city circle and surroundings, the other one is areas near St.Louis. Glad that I don't need one! Thank you for your advise!

IL Update day 2

New starter still on its way. Today is mostly cleaning things.
I removed the torque arm that cover the driveshaft. Also I took 4 bolt on the rear diff off so the driveshaft is movable now. I decide to cover it with some protective soft sheet before I remove it. I discovered that the bolts are a little bit rusty so I soak them into rust dissolver. I also cleaned the outer surface of the tail pipe. I know it's not necessary and I wouldn't see it everyday, but I just want to make it perfect. I also totally cleaned the brace and torque arm which I found some dent with bare metal. So I am considering to repaint those metal sheet to prevent rust (if it won't get rust please tell me).
I will try to rent a transmission jack tomorrow so that I could finally remove the transmission. furthermore, how do you guys usually clean the under body of the car?
