Question Driveshaft Repair - Bad U-joints, 04 RX8 Manual Trans??

I live in the Tampa Florida area and am looking for either a reputable driveshaft repair shop to replace the u-joints or an online business that I can purchase a rebuilt or remanufactured carbon fiber rx-8 driveshaft.

My local Mazda dealer said the only driveshaft the can find is in Japan and will take 5-7 weeks. I found plenty salvaged/used RX-8 carbon fiber driveshaft's on eBay and new driveshaft's that claim to be correct but are made of steel, all are no-go for me at this time.

Is there anyone who can point me in correct direction?

Thank you in advance

I have a CF one you can buy from my 04 6spd. Drive train swap so i don't need it. Make an offer and add shipping costs. Ships from Omaha, NE.

Else find a drive shaft shop near you. I had an aluminum one made for my setup.

Thank you for the reply. There are a couple of driveshaft repair shops in the area I wanted to check with who are close over the weekend.
How many miles does your CF DS have on it?
I'm curious, how long have you been driving around with the aluminum DS and how has it been working out?

It has 100k miles on it. A shop should be able to repair that joint no problem. I had one made from an existing camaro SS driveshaft (I'm using a t56). I got it extended and fitted to my Ford 8.8 diff. I haven't driven on it but they offer a warranty. My car should be on the road in a couple of months... Good luck

Just Googling, it looks like there's a place in Tampa called Driveshaft Specialists. Have you given them a buzz?

I'm told the same thing from four different DS shops, that the RX-8 DS isn't repairable because the u-joints are staked in. Driveshaft Specialists said they couldn't build me one, I met with another DS shop in Clearwater FL today they're looking into building a CF DS. I'll know more tomorrow. If they come through it'll be worth the hour drive to their shop.

Driveshaft built

Thank you again for the inputs and suggestions. I found a driveshaft shop, Precision Shaft Technologies ( Precision Shaft Technologies ), in Clearwater Florida who built me a steal ds in about four hours. The steal ds is one pound heavier than the OEM ds and is repairable. I've had it in the car for a month now and it rides smooth. If I want a carbon fiber ds built they'll build that as well for a reasonable price in a coupe of days.
