UK ECU and Keys

hi guys,

this is first post ive ever done ever so please be nice,

im in the uk but i bought an 04 231 MT but it only came with 1 key and fob of which the fob doesnt work, ive tried the posts to deal with programming etc which obv didnt work, i am now looking at just replacing the whole lock set receiver etc, but i need to know if the main ecu of the car is actually linked to it all and if so does it matter if the donor is the 192 model?

also car has code u1067 failure to communicate with keyless module?

thanks in advance

Yes, every electronic module in the car is interlinked with the ECU, and the ECU is interlinked with them. Replace any module and a dealer will need to reprogram the ECU to recognize it, and reprogram the module to recognize the ECU.

Expect it to cost you an unreasonable amount of money.

ok thanks, as to the second part of my post, can the donor come from a diff model/year ie 05 192? if i change the ecu out will anything have to be done or is it all just plug and play? because i can get ecu plus all the locking modules locks etc quite cheap?

Simple answer is no, specifically an auto ECU cannot go with M/T and some years are interchangeable some are not.

There were changes in the ecu. Especially in the early years of the car. The 03/04 is different than the 05 and the 05 is different than the 06. Beyond that, I'm uncertain. The 06 through the 08 may all be the same. The Series 2 cars 09+ have a completely different ecu again.
You need to compare part numbers for your ecu to know whither another will work for your car or not.

yeah i had a feeling they would be different over different years but what if there were same year and model? or is it just hit or miss?

Same year, same at/mt it should work. As said before, it will have to be reprogrammed at the dealer to get it to work in your car.
