Engine is bad needs replacement, dealer seems to be giving me the run around
do RX8 engines still have an 8 year warranty?
I have a 2010 series II
but I bought it in 2011 brand new
so either way this is less than 7 years and my car has like 39,000 miles on it
anyway, the dealer says they will replace the engine but since I did not purchase the car from them they cannot find the warranty information
I bought the car at a different dealership about an hour away a long time ago
so I will have to call them tomorrow, though I'm not really sure for what?
does the current dealership want a bill of sale or something?

That sounds like stalling tactics.
Call Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) with your VIN and they should give you any warranty information you need and get it on record.

Call MNAO as Big Cajun says. You are covered for sure, and as Charles indicates, you are getting the run around from these folks. Any authorized Mazda dealership with a service department, including them, has to cover any Mazda brought in for Mazda factory warranty . Whether you will want these idiots working on your car and changing your engine is a question you have to answer. Maybe MNAO can suggest a better. more cooperative dealership in your area.

I've had good luck speaking with Mazda North America. They worked with me to get the engine replaced in my 05 GT and it was out of warranty. They went above and beyond.
It also sounds to me like the dealer isn't really doing their part on getting things handled. Now my next question is, why do you think the engine has failed? Have you had it condemned by a Mazda dealer? Mazda will need a dealer to confirm the engine has failed before moving forward with a warranty engine claim.

hello
well, I can't say it's been the best experience
I have had many problems with the mazda service department at various dealerships
I have been out of town so a relative has been talking with the service department
they said the engine lacks compression then handed him a 9,000$ repair bill
after checking with the dealership where I bought my car, they told me it only has a 36,000 warranty
now, I dont want to be judgmental here, but if someone working in the service department does not know the difference between a power train warranty, he should not have his job.
so we ended up having to call mazda usa of our own volition and they got everything taken care of
the warranty information is posted here and it clearly says rotaries 8 years
https://www.mazdausa.com/owners/warranty
anyway, if you are curious about the symptoms of the engine
this goes back over a year ago
on very cold days, around freezing
after starting the car and driving maybe a few feet to a stop sign
pressing the gas pedal, the car would not move, basically a "loss of power"
since this is an automatic I was hoping it was just a bad torque converter
on the highway around 2800RPM the car would gently rock forward and back slightly
so again I thought it might be the transmission not wanting to change gears properly
my relative was driving the car earlier this year and said the car would not start
and finally when it did start, it was a rough idle
when I started it the next day, the RPM needle would jump all over and white smoke would puff out the exhaust - that is when I knew this was serious.
who knows, I may have a bad transmission and a broken engine, we will have to wait and see.
my car only has 39,000 miles
the spark plugs were changed at 20,000 miles
the coil packs and wires at 30,000
engine carbon cleaning was done last year, but it was probably too late since I was already experiencing the cold power loss problem.
I honestly dont know why this engine would have failed
could bad gas have caused this? the car was sitting for about 5 months at one time I drained most all of the gas from the gas tank but not the fuel lines.
or too much carbon build up? This is my girlfriend's car and she rarely goes over 4000RPM.
anyway, my FD3S RX7 engine was more reliable than this, so it is disappointing.

You don't let rotaries sit. Pretty sure those seals dried out and that was game over. Rarely going over 4000 RPM doesn't help either.
The 13BREW =/= Renesis. Mazda said "Hey, what's the best we can do with an NA rotary engine?" then designed the renny to make the best possible NA race car engine they could think of. That's what it is, no more, no less. It's a different beast than the 13B, and needs to be treated differently. It even states in the owners manual something along the lines of "The car freely revs to 9000, so goddamn do it."
You can't let them sit. They don't like sitting. My car HATES to sit for a week.

A Series II engine failing with so few miles.. very odd. What were the actual compression #s? Usually with compression loss you will have stalling/starting issues when the car is hot. Was the check engine light flashing when you experienced your symptoms? Cold start issues could be a failing ignition system, but cold start misfires and white smoke are also consistent with a failed coolant seal leaking coolant into the combustion chamber. Does the car have a history of overheating in the summer?
Dealers these days are clueless about the RX-8's. Good luck with your replacement.
