Engine stalls when coming to abrupt halt
So my 2006 RX-8 is automatic and lately, when I come to an abrupt stop, my car stalls (requiring me to put the car in park, turn the ignition off, and start the car again). Any ideas as to what may be causing this? My car has about 180,000 miles on it but the engine is pretty much brand new. Had it replaced last year.

This issue was first noticed probably close to 6 months ago and since then, it's happened maybe 3 or 4 times total. So it's very infrequent. It has happened 2 times in the last week though so it's possible it may be getting worse but I can't say for sure.
My car runs pretty smoothly otherwise and my car will not stall as long as I come to a stop gradually. I believe it only happens when I'm traveling at relatively low speeds and abruptly slam on the brake. That's why this issue only occurs when I have to brake suddenly/unexpectedly. The first time it ever happened it was because I slammed on my brakes to avoid rear ending someone. Most recently, I was approaching a traffic light that had just turned red so I needed to come to an abrupt stop.
In regards to the modifications, I have had a AEM cold air intake installed when I got the car in 2006.
