Exhaust Choice Help

Hello all,
I own a series 2 rx8 and am looking to get a new exhaust system for it. My 3 goals are to blow flames, have it be a little louder, and sound good doing it.i live in sc so no smog tests and i would like to go catless for those juicy flames
Currently im considering
Catless Bhr
would still need cat back and im not sure if bhr fits on series 2.
racing beat
does the racing beat have a cat because the website says "street legal" but im not sure if that means sound or smog.
I am also open to any other options my budget is around 1000.
sincerely, phi

The Racing Beat exhaust is a cat back system. I have a gutted cat and RB cat back in one of my 8's and it sounds fantastic. The fitment is excellent as is the build quality and appearance of the exhaust.

Oh wow the racing beat is 900 dollars for just the cat back. Also when you say gutted cat do you mean you took your midpipe out took out the meavy metals in the cat and put it back in cause thats not a bad idea and i can save like 300 dollars on the midpipe.

Please don't gut your cat unless it's clogged or broken up.

You can put it up for sale for someone here who really needs it to pass smog.

A good legal replacement cat that can withstand the rotary's heat is $1k or more, a new OEM replacement is around $1500.
You can possibly find a bad junkyard cat to gut and with a little patience sell your cat (if it's still good) for enough to get a good used catback, or augment the $1k you're prepared to spend and get the BHR and a new catback.
Check out the FS forums.

The converter was hollowed out before I got the car. I removed it and to to my surprise, it was hollow. At that point I decided to leave it for now, but I do plan on putting a stock converter back on the car. When one comes available locally, I'll buy it and install it.

With that said, as BigCajun stated, do not hollow out your current cat. They hold value and you may end up needing it. I recommend buying a midpipe if you want to go catless. But be prepared to have a check engine light with the midpipe.
