WA F***ing g** darned jack **s... He hit me... (hit and run)

Leaving for work and i came out to find this had happened...

I guess it's time to loose the rear wing, tint the tail lights, and do my own thing with the rear bumper cover.

Any suggestions?

**already took it to insurasne and if i don't want my rate to go up i fix it myself**

Ouch! Were you parked? Why are you wanting to loose the spoiler? I can understand the tint on the tails but the spoiler. You may want to look at rockauto.com for part.

What insurance company do you have that will raise your rate for getting hit while parked?

Many insurance companies still consider that a "collision" claim which typically carries a rate hike (while "comprehensive" doesn't). Their reasoning is that you clearly represent an increased risk because you park in unsafe areas.

You should make a claim, looks like to much damage to be out of pocket.

It should be covered under comprehensive. I've had to deal with 2 hit and runs over the years on various vehicles, both times it was covered under comprehensive. I believe it's because it's considered "damage from criminal activity", the same as a break in or theft.

File a claim, it's going to get rather costly to fix. Even if your rates go up (which there is ZERO justification for an insurance company to do so), it's still probably cheaper to file a claim. There may even be enough damage there to justify a total considering your rear quarter panel is involved, and if you follow that, it's part of the roof. It's not just a piece you can simply replace.

Looks like there is more than $2500 damage there....not likely something that you will want to fix yourself

It should be covered under comprehensive coverage...it was a hit and run

Update..

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm taking the hit on my insurance. It's less than the parts I want to pick up for her (i don't like body work but i lucked out on one of the body shops i went into... rotary fan! woop). The deal is, he'll pull the dents and straighten everything out, I'll do the nuts and bolts of my aftermarket parts then come back to him for finish work, paint ect.
My state here covers the damages of hit and runs through Under/non-insured motorists but i dropped that two months ago because i normally park it in the garage and work is only 15 min away. The one time i didn't... of course this happens. I can't remeber the user name but i kinda fell in love with the tail attached.

hoosier1104: I like the sleek look.What can i say?

Whether a collision claim counts against you should depend on fault. I lost two cars to collisions with uninsured drivers. One was paid off under collision, the other under uninsured motorist, based on which had the more favorable deductable at the time. Niether one affected my rates.

My wife's car once had a tail light taken out while parked. The insurance company said unless I saw someone swing a bat at it, that was considered to be collision. No fault, but the deductable applied. Despite my taking a run at it being glass (sort of) which is usually covered by comprehensive.

This is not universal and completely dependent on the insurance company and/or underwriter (as well as how your agent writes up the claim). Statistical analysis can be (and are) done many different ways with some entities taking "fault" into consideration and others just looking at the raw numbers of how many collisions your car has been in (among other possible factors such as credit rating, income profile, region of the country, etc).

In my case, NYC, when one of my cars got hit and run while parked, I'm pretty sure they handled it as collision.

Also, I think different states handle the fault/no-fault thing differently. It seems the reasoning behind no-fault laws is to reduce premium/litigation costs.

you should always install a camera in car, facing both front AND rear.

Yeah, I wanted to show her off after new brakes and a fresh detail so I didnt park at the back like i normally would. But, Glass half full, the $1k rear bumper i wanted will only cost $4,604.81

Rookie mistake.... I know...

I'm in Washington (no not DC) they cover it under Non-insured motorist. But in our state you're required to have insurance, i don't leave state much so i didnt think i needed it at the time and never really reconsidered... I've just renewed my policy sense i got the car. Another rookie mistake, i get it...

That's just an estimate. I have to pay my deductible. I'm glad I'm getting it fixed and she'll be pretty again. Bummed I'll miss a meet this weekend though.
