Filter for SOHN tank

I want to put a filter on the oil going into my sohn and i was think some kind of fuel filter but i wasn't sure if it would work since there isn't any pressure on the oil. Has anyone done this and know what kind of filter is best to go with? This is what i was thinking of using.==>81-0261 - K&N Fuel Filters, Cellulose Media Fuel Filter direct from K&N

Lawn mower fuel filter from home depot works. Don't use anything too dense. There is a DIY thread with all kinds of info on sohn setups.

I've seen the DIY thread before, that is where i got the idea, but i can't find it, or i'm just missing it when i look. And as far as the density that is really where my question is, should i use a paper filter like the K&N one of should i get one that has a fine metal screen. I know the metal screen wont filter small particles well but it seems like it would have less of a chance of restricting the oil flow.

I have a basic GM-type fuel filter (whatever that means) from a parts store. It's translucent so I can see if it's full and the filter media is paper. Seriously, the SOHN doesn't drink that much so I wouldn't worry about restricting the flow. At peak use (track) mine drinks about 150ml/10 minutes, so fairly slow.

Picture ( catch can is the oil reservoir):

Ok, thanks Loki that was my main concern with the paper filter that i would somehow restrict the flow.

Because that tank isn't air tight so it's going to get dirt in there, I don't really want dirty oil being injected.

The amount of dirt in the air that would make it in the tank and contaminate that supply is miniscule. The oil in the tank doesn't last long enough to get contaminated. I would worry more about that FUEL filter trapping the dirt that does get in and getting clogged.

Mine.

Well the oil when I put it in is almost clear and you can see in that tank it has started to turn gold/brown colored and $8 for peace of mind doesn't hurt to much. Is that a custom tank 9k or did you order it from somewhere?

It is made by Canton racing. I added those fittings and level though, the ones that come with are brass and clear hose. And it comes with plugs for the one hole you don't need. We also made the brackets to secure it and I had it Jet Hot coated. Overkill I know.

I'm thinking of doing something like that because I don't really like the way the plastic tank looks, but for how much that costs I will just make my own.

I have had a few plastic tanks over the years and they just don't hold up to the heat and get discolored and nasty looking.

I love the look of the hose gauge on that. If I hadn't already bought my tanks I'd do this. Maybe when mine get nasty..

Maybe I just can't see on my phone, but did you nix the wiper fluid completely?
