Finally another Rotary

I just got an 06 RX8, and am stoked to be in a rotary again (previously owned a FD, that got totaled).

I when to St. Cloud, MN to get it, it was a long day to say the least, left home at 3:15am, and made it home about 11:15pm. Im currently coming down off of my sugar/caffeine buzz. Soon time for bed, but i had a question first...

it has one generic key, no fob included. but loose in the cup holder there was/is the keyless ignition cap thing that is turned in place of the key. Does this indicate that if i purchased the card (thin) fob, i could potentially have keyless ignition?

Yes it should have the keyless ignition. With the correct thin fob you still have to turn the cap, but you would not need the key to turn the ignition on. The only source of the correct thin fob would be a Mazda parts supplier or dealer. Check out Mazda suppliers here on the forum, they should be cheaper than any dealer. You will have to supply documentation that you own the vehicle before anyone will sell you the fob. I would be a little nervous with the fact that the original fob is somewhere out there. You will need to get it reset to be safe.

Is there some kind of key that goes in the ignition under the cap? Or is that more of an emergency type thing?

Also, I bought the car 8+ hours from here so I'm not too worried about it. But that is a good fact to know!

Inside the thin fob is an emergency key that will go under the cap . This key will also lock the glovebox and rear seat pass-through cover.
