finally bought my 8!

Alright so after living with my friend and seeing his two rx8s everyday and driving one i decided I would buy one. I found it for a hell of a deal but with that being said there are some problems, and I would like to ask all of you If you could help me out!

1. electric steering is out, I changed the fuse(15A) and it didn't help or change anything

2. Its leaking oil pretty bad out of the front underneath the alternator I was told it was a seal?

3. when I was taking her home it ran good up until 4-5k rpm and then would chug then get back on it idk what could be causing that I'm hoping the seal

If anyone can help me out with trying to get this at 100% before spring that would be awesome!

OP,
Welcome.

Read through that^.

Power steering issue is usually the connector below the coolant overflow drain. Clean, Di-electic grease and re-install. Hopefully that helps.

Can you be a little clearer on the location of the "oil" leak? Right below the alternator is the water pump.. Do you happen to have a picture of it?

The "chug" or lack of power around 5-6K is usually a gummed up SSV. You can do a quick google search for RX8club: SSV and the cleaning DIY should be one of the first few.

Under the alternator is the water pump, under that is the main pulley. This is likely a leak point. There is a DIY in here for that one as well. I had to use a small butane torch to heat the center bolt to get it out. We did 2 of them in about 4 hours.

The SSV clean is about 3 hours, but if you combine the two, it will be shorter. You have to pull some of the same stuff off for both.

And, congrats and welcome.
