Finally joined the club!

My new baby. 2006 GT MT I brought home yesterday. A big thanks to this forum for providing the information necessary to prevent buying a turd and to keep it healthy. I've been lurking for 2 years and was finally able to take the plunge. Damn, this car is fun.

Need some advice on my newly purchased automatic 2004 RX8. Coolant has been burning fast and temperature has just redlined as of tonight after running for 15 minutes. Not sure what it could be. Coolant coming out of the overflow hose. Haven't raised the car to inspect the radiator yet. Have had the car for about 3 weeks now and this is the first time I'm experiencing overheating issues. Any suggestions on where to start? Appreciate your help fellas.

Read through this thread and see if your symptoms match any others. If your 2004 has any original cooling system parts, they are prone to failure at this age. You need to diagnose your radiator, hoses, thermostat, cooling fans operation, age and quality of actual coolant , oil coolers, and your coolant overflow tank and all connections and hoses.

Do not drive or run the car engine if your temp is in the red and you are losing coolant. . Do you have an obd2 reader set up to get the actual coolant temp numbers ? If your RX8 temp gauge is in the redzone you may already be in engine damage zone. You also could have an internal coolant seal leak, or blockage somewhere in the system. . If you are not experienced, you need to have the car seen by a rotary mechanic.

Is it hard to start when cold? Are there coolant deposits on the spark plugs? Does it make white smoke at all?

If you said yes to any of these, you may be in for a new engine. Steps to confirm/negate: cooling system pressure test and/or engine compression test (which is usually done before purchase for this exact reason).

Congrats on a sweet ride.

Just started looking for one myself, considering purchasing a compression tester just to simplify the process.

Thank you. I've read them repeatedly and they really were helpful in my search. I know exactly what I'm getting myself into and I'm honestly thrilled with the car.

Thanks. I was about to go that route. Many sellers didn't want to go through the hassle of taking it to the dealer for a $5-6000 car. This one had a compression test done less than a thousand miles ago, which basically made the purchase for me. Good luck in your search.

Welcome bro. You took the right road to this, learning and researching on here before buying. Keep up with the reading on here and you will enjoy the car for along time.

Well life happened and unfortunately it has been sitting for about 18 months. We're bringing it back from the dead and turbocharging the beast. Forced induction will begin late summer depending on the engine but I'm excited to drive her again.

Getting a new battery and waiting on a compression tester. Fingers crossed.
