Finally an owner and joined here

Just wanted to say hello and thanks for all the info I have read here for the last 4 years. I never joined cause i never thought i would actually buy an 8, but dreamed of one. I found one about a 100 miles away i couldn't refuse.

After picking her up and driving her home, I'm still not sure why i haven't gotten one sooner. I bought it without a compression test (couldn't resist the price) but I test drove it for an hour and all seems well. She has an appointment to get her air bag replaced and a compression test done next week. I already assumed to have the engine rebuilt or replaced so no matter what, she has the funds ready if needed. She runs very good for having almost 70k on her. I have already tuned her up and changed all the fluids. There is just a couple of flaws on the body i would like to address but am waiting to see what the compression test shows before i start spending money elsewhere. Even if it only runs for a year, it was well worth it and will fix her.

Overall i am impressed and a little disappointed. Impressed that at how much fun an 8 actually is and disappointed that i didn't get the chance of buying one brand new. lol

looks good congrats on the buy and welcome. my first rx8 had 70k miles on it and ran for more than a year without a single issue. just get very familiar with maintaining the engine and it should treat you good

So far i cleaned the MAF/IAT and all of the air intake rubber/plastic pieces. Also added a new k/n stock air filter. Changed the plugs, wires, and coils with OEM coils, NKG wires and plugs. (Saving up to get some BHR's). Changed the oil and filter. Also flushed the radiator and refilled. I am getting the dreaded, low light. So I bought a new overflow and unplugged the sensor. I make sure it is full of course. I just haven't installed the new tank yet.

I had to change the front breaks asap due to skipping. So i had to get what was available which was OEM autozone rotors and ceramic (squeaky when cold) pads, still looking for a good brake upgrade for just a daily driver and fun on deserted country roads.

I did get it to the dealer service center to fix the driver's side airbag and they confirmed that the passenger side is coming sooner or later. The only thing that sucked about taking it to the dealer was that i was supposed to have a compression test done. They told me that their tester had a bad led number and couldn't tell a 3, 5, 7, and 8 apart. lol But when the guy that took my car to move it and drove it into the shop, he said it felt like it had nice compression when starting it and driving it while it was warm. (Same reason i bought it after test driving it for an hour and drove it to run errands) They are supposed to get ahold of me when their tester works, or i might just buy one that i saw in the forums.

I insulated the A/C Lines and Re-programmed it. I also put new filters for the cabin in.

I also cleaned all the grounds, terminals and replaced the battery with a yellowtop d34 with an extender for the stereo i have in the basement, that waited to find its match. I haven't added the extra grounds yet but am planning on doing it.

I still have a few other things i got to do to it, but just cant drive it enough.

Just noticed that i need to change the fluid in my drivers side fog light but am waiting on oil cooler fan screens. I figured it would be easier to get the fog light off and drained when i take the bumper off to install the screens.

I also ordered a set of bhr coils and a bhr catless midpipe today. I am attaching the midpipe to the stock exhaust. I hope it doesn't make the car much louder, but from what i have read, it shouldn't effect it too much. I like having a quiet road gripper.

I also found a couple rx8's im thinking about going and checking out. One the same year that has 93k miles with a new engine with about 1k miles on it, which is the same color as what i have. Or there is a red '07 with 32k miles on it. Both of them are about $8500 and not sure which one i should check out first. I guess I'll wait and see if either of them can get compression tests and inform me of the results.

Sure would be nice to have a backup toy, in case they dont release the Vision anytime soon.

I was also wondering about, if i should go ahead and throw a new radiator and thermostat and maybe hoses in since i just hit 70k miles. My peek temp of water i am getting now in 88F weather and hard driven is 215F. That sounds borderline hot to me.

I haven't had a chance to block airflow around my radiator yet but planing on doing it when i swap out my coolant overflow and cleaning the ssv.

If i should throw a new radiator in it, which one should i look in to for a daily driver in ohio. I will be driving it hard here and there.
