Hello, RX8 Club. I have owned my 2004 Nordic Green Rx8 for a few years now. I bought the car with low compression engine in March 2015 and drove it like that for a few months, it worked well as long as I kept the revs up at stops. I purchased a reman engine from Shawn @ Rotary Resurrection. He was awesome to work and I recommend his shop to anyone looking to get into an Rx8. I installed the reman engine at 78k and currently have over 100k. I enjoy the car however like many, I would like a little more power out of it and would prefer to be able to pass a gas station with out filling up. (I get 17-22) depending on how I drive it and how cold it is.

This leads me to my other car, I bought a 2004 rsx back in 2015 with a knocking k20a2, I swapped that out for a k24 from a 04 tsx. I loved that car, minus the fact that it was front wheel drive. I sold the car to my then boss, he is still driving it and enjoying the heck out of it, getting a claimed 27-28mpg normal driving.

One month ago I bought a 2005 rx8 project (cool ranch blue my favorite) , and a 2004 rsx type s with high miles. My plan is to take the k20a2 and fit it in the 05 rx8. (insert you will never get this done comments here) I have purchased an adapter plate from a guy in the UK to mate the rx8 gearbox to the honda k series engine. My rough plan is to run both the rx8 ecu and the honda ecu. I hope to be able to make the mazda ecu happy in mazda edit. The honda ecu will get K pro or k tuned undecided at this time. This thread will hopefully be my documentation of the whole process. I have only seen a few other swaps like this, I hope to share what I encounter.
-Jared.

Cool, good luck. Doesn't sound like a terrible plan. I would just check that the K20 is not too tall for the hood, firewall, etc.

I've seen a few completed swaps they look to tuck the engine well in the firewall.

Welcome. Good luck with the swap. A K20 is definitely an exciting engine without too many drawbacks.

I think I have found a clutch set up. K24 flywheel and pressure plate. with a 83 mustang/capri friction disc. I ordered the disc just now and will try it on the gearbox. The guy who makes the adapter plates says they are splined the same, who knew! We will find out!

The k24 flywheel takes a 8.5" friction disc. same as the ford disc, So we will see.

Just got off the phone with my pa, (where I am lucky enough to have a place to work on my stuff) he says the ford mustang clutch disc is too small to fit on the rx8 input shaft. Damn, time to find a different disc.

There are places out there that will build custom/hybrid clutches.

I might have to look in to that, right now I am trying to spec budget parts to help others in the quest to get a "normal" engine in the rx8 with out spending huge money on parts.

Have you looked at the clutch from an MX5, the specs on Rock Auto are all over the place but they do have Exedy ZD13H which states 215mm diameter (~8.5") and 1 1/16" with 23T splines that should match the input shaft on the RX8 (some places claim 1" other 1 1/16") but definitely 23 splines. Assuming it fits the input shaft and the overall diameter is correct then that should work for you.
Based on that any 2006-2011 MX5 6 speed clutch should work for you.

Pa was wrong, Mustang disc fits!! Part numberE3ZZ 7550 B
I ordered in a k24 flywheel and pressure plate, this gives me the room to run the 8.5 outer diameter disc, mustang or miata.

Picture of disc installed on the transmission. Mustang E3ZZ7550B clutch disc on rx8 6 speed gearbox.

Dead thread, I did not finish this, (who guessed) too much of the fire wall needed to be cut apart to fit the engine in place. Not my style.

K swap rx8

Do you still have the receipts and prices for your swap pieces?
I'm trying to figure out what I would need to pay and get in order to attempt this.
