First time rx8 owner, new to the forum
Hey guys, just doing the introduction thing. Bought my used 04 rx8 day before yesterday so I'm just getting started. I've read a bunch of stuff here already so I have a general idea of what to expect but my fingers are crossed and I'm feeling good. I picked her up for 3.5k with a known problem, but only one. The prev owner said that the "air pump solenoid" was bad and made it go in limp mode "sometimes", but that it was a 20 dollar part. That was all the data I had, lol. Test drive was great, car was fun to drive and didn't make any weird noises or present any problems, but it should have been longer if I was being smart about it. Literally as soon as money exchanged hands and the title was signed I went to pull out and it went into limp within a block of their house. Tried letting it sit at a gas station for a few minutes but it kept going right back into limp, limiting me to 3k rpm. Let me tell you, that was an annoying 3 hour drive back to my place. Got the codes read and it shows a P2259 and a P0410. Still, it was either that or a same year rx8 from a dealership that wanted a down payment of 3k and total price of 6700 so I went with this one. It was gonna be a used car either way so I came into it expecting to deal with something either way, better to have it paid off and have some idea of what was going out than not. I did some investigating and found out where the solenoid in question was so either today or tomorrow I'm going to take off the UIM and pull it and swap it out. The part was actually 80 bucks but whatever. lol Not really a huge difference. Prolly could have found it cheaper online somewhere but I just went to autozone once I figured out what part it was and grabbed it.
So, wish me luck, I guess. The journey begins.
I'll probably post some pictures once I get it running right. She's not super fancy or anything... clear coat is pretty worn but everything is intact.

The air pump doesn't cause limp mode, only the OMP and the coolant temp sensor will do that, and 99% it's the OMP. Has the engine been out at all? If the OMP had been off at some point, it needs to be clocked correctly when reinstalled. Could be that simple.
Often it's not the OMP itself but the connector to it. It's low to the ground and suffer from the weather.
Rx8help.com for a summary of things to look for.
By the way, the OMP has a code, but it's Mazda-specific code not all readers will pick up.
