Been lurking the forums for a while but finally decided to post an intro now that I've finally got my hands on an RX8.
Picked up this beautiful example earlier this year from a forum member. She's completely stock as far as I'm aware, 112k miles total and 15k miles on her second engine. Finally got a good break in the Michigan weather for me take the time to do a full decon wash + wax. Next step steps are polishing the headlights, changing out the oil, and enjoying the rotary experience.
In terms of goals, the plan is for her to be a fair weather weekend warrior. No plans for any mods besides reliability things such as BHR coils / Bilstein dampers in the future if these Michigan roads take their toll on the current strut and coils.
Wow, that's a beautiful 40th Anniversary!! It does appear all stock other than the wheels. It's a beautiful car! Would like to see more pictures of it! Also, nice MK3 Supra I see in the background!
Good eye! In an ideal world an RX7 would be the goal, but a single 30 year old car + all that it entails is enough and ownership of the MKIII is non-negotiable for sentimental reasons. So I did the next best thing and got the 8. Works out great with the MKIII being a high mileage tank of a cruiser, and the RX8 being the sportier, nimbler car.
The seller was kind enough to include the original wheels, but one of them has a crack and won't hold air. Replacing that one will be a longer term goal, as I'm enjoying the shoes she wears currently.
Today I tackled the polishing the headlights, as well as a quick clean + conditioning of the leather. The Florida sun was has not been kind and has taken its toll on the leather and plastics. Used Cerakote products plenty of times in the past with good results, this time I opted for Griots Garage resto kit which uses Cerakote's oxidation remover + sealant, but with a slightly different process. Overall I think it turned out pretty well. The headlights have plenty of cracks in them that I can't do anything about, but at least I can see through them now. And I even noticed the small details like the rotor triangle in the projector housing!
