Hard decision S1 or S2 help!!!
I am off to college in about a year. I have saved up enough money to get an rx-8 cause i fell in love with everything about it. Now i am torn between S1 and S2 eights. I am going for the red interior and exterior and also like the recaros. Whats best in your opinion! Thanks! (I'm a 16 year old mechanic so I'm not worried about anything electrical or engine malfunctions)

If you don't have a good amount of disposable income then don't buy an RX-8.
The S2 will be more reliable and more likely to have a warranty and be able to get an aftermarket warranty if not. If you want Recaro's then the R3 is your only choice unless you plan on bucking out for aftermarket Recaro's. I'm not sure what red interior you are talking about but the red interior in the S2's is extremely rare.
The red and black leather in the S1 is common but not my style.

If you're going to mod the crap out of it, or if you just want a rotary car for lols and can afford some downtime, S1.
Otherwise, S2.
Either way, you need it to have a manual transmission and a responsible previous owner.
The R3 is rare and its Recaros are really not that great on the street. Unless you absolutely have to have that trim for other reasons, don't bother IMO -- it's not going to be worth the money.
I'm inclined to recommend a nice base model S2 6MT, honestly. if you get one with a clean title and a good maintenance history, it'll be a good place to start and will definitely grow with you.

Read the new and potential owner's sticky and take it to heart. The 8 is not an inexpensive car to own and not something I would recommend for a college student.

Ahhh I have an R3 and love my Recaros!!! I DD and track it, no problems with long road trips/street.
But to the OP, as others have mentioned. Have some disposable income. This isn't a cheap car to own by any means. I've had mine since around 16-17 and i'm 20 now. Between insurance/Gas/my original engine failing(under warranty) the car's been very financially and time consuming. Wouldn't trade it for anything though. The joy of ownership is priceless

IMHO, the engine in the S2 is probably a little more reliable (I think both versions are reliable if you strictly follow maintenance guidelines) and the front grill is a lot less attractive. Ugly side brake "vents", too. But the rear end/taillights on the S2 are nicer.

The maintenance is not exactly cheap either.
Should the engine go, you are looking at $5,000 on average to replace it if it is not under warranty.
The Renesis is a different animal. It really is. Rebuilding one yourself costs $3,000 on average. Be realistic.

If you have read the new owner stickies and you are still determined to get an 8, then do it.
You should be aware it requires premium gas every fillup, gets less than 20 mpg, (I get around 14-15 with enthusiastic driving) and oil changes every 3k miles.
I also premix.
I have a 2004 LY GT 6 speed, and I love it.
Got it almost 4 years ago with 18k miles and now at 54k miles.
Cat went bad shortly after purchase, got a BHR midpipe, 2 batteries, new brake rotors and pads, $800 set of tires, a fuel pump, and 3 ignition sets.
It is expensive and high maintenance.
I prefer S1s obviously.
Any 8 you buy will be a crap shoot, but be sure to get a rotary specific compression test.
Imo, an older, unmolested, higher mileage 8 that has been maintained by a knowledgeable owner is probably a better, and cheaper buy than a lower mileage, later model owned by someone who treated it like a Honda.
This forum is a very valuable resource and there are plenty of knowledgeable members willing to assist new members if they do their research and are willing to do the work.

Hope your parents can pay for college because the car isn't cheap to maintain. Also since your a kid, please drive it responsibly. It's fun to go fast and rev it, but lose control, and you could seriously hurt or kill people... and of course wreck your car.

My brother got a full ride scholarship. So my parents said they will pay. (Don't worry I'm not a entitled brat. Cause i was just going to enlist in the navy) i just love the eighth so much I can't see driving any other car.

On paper an S2 is better, both because its newer (therefore 8 year engine warranty is still in effect) and because of the engine updates. You can swap interiors - at least the seats - from one to the other if you really want.
But as far as taste goes... we can't tell you what to do![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Good luck, just make sure you buy wisely. If the previous owner knows rotaries like you do, you're probably on the right track
